Victim ID'd, truck driver charged in fatal 316 crash

A 29-year-old Winder man died Wednesday following a three-vehicle crash on Ga. Highway 316, authorities said Thursday, which involved a driver of a tractor-trailer who has been charged.

The fatal accident shut down all lanes of 316 in Barrow County for several hours as authorities investigated the crash that happened westbound between Patrick Mill and Carl Bethlehem roads.

Georgia State Patrol, the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and the Barrow County Fire Department responded to the scene, and investigators believe a tractor-trailer hit the back of a red 1989 Dodge Ram 50 pickup truck, which caused the truck to overturn. The driver of the truck, Cody Grayson Brantley, 29, of Winder, died at the scene.

The crash happened at 1:30 p.m. after a mower was straddling the westbound right lane and shoulder when a Dodge 3500 truck, unable to pass the mower, stopped ahead of the Dodge Ram 50, which was struck by the tractor-trailer.

Roger Bly, 40, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., was charged with second degree homicide by vehicle and following too closely.

Photos of the crash showed the pickup truck flattened in the crash that carried over into the right shoulder of the road where the tractor-trailer careened into and bent the guard rail.
