Kevin Bacon will be in town for Sugar Hill’s 75th Anniversary this Saturday night, but not as an actor — he’ll be preforming with his band The Bacon Brothers.

The 75th anniversary is a once-in-a-lifetime event, Sugar Hill Mayor Pro Tem Marc Cohen said, so city leaders wanted to do something cool and unique — something that would set Sugar Hill apart.

“We were looking for a band that was different and would attract the community,” Cohen said. “The Bacon Brothers were looking to add a Georgia date to their tour, so it all just kind of came together and we booked them.”

Brothers Michael and Kevin Bacon, who grew up in a Philadelphia home filled with music, decided to formally form The Bacon Brothers back in 1995.

Michael Bacon is a professional musician and he’s gone on to compose songs for television and film. He won an emmy for his score for the TV mini-series “The Kennedys” and has written the score for three Academy Award winning films.

Many are familiar with Kevin Bacon as the highly successful actor from films such as “Footloose” and “A Few Good Men,” but few realize Kevin is also a musician, singer and songwriter. The Bacon Brothers have played gigs over the last 18 years, shaking the notion that nothing good can come from well-known actors dabbling in the music industry.

“Kevin writes a lot more songs than I do,” Michael Bacon said on the band’s website. “While my days are filled with composing instrumental music for film and TV, songs are more a more daunting challenge. If I write one or two a year that I like, then I’m happy. But Kevin has this amazing gift of turning everyday experiences into universal thoughts that everybody can identify with.”

Cohen said Sugar Hill and The Bacon Brothers are a perfect fit, the city and the band both a little under the radar

“For a long time people did not know who or where Sugar Hill was,” Cohen said, “and now that they do they are finding it to be a very innovative, dynamic and exciting city that is rapidly changing and developing thanks to the mayor, council, staff, and Downtown Development Authority.”

The Bacon Brothers’ sound is a mix of country, folk rock with a little bit of Philly soul. They’ve released seven CDs including a live album, “The No Food Jokes Tour,” and most recently “Philadelphia Road: The Best of The Bacon Brothers.” Their latest album, “36 Cents,” is scheduled to come out the end of this summer.

The Bacon Brothers have appeared as special musical guests on “A Prairie Home Companion,” “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” “Live with Kelly and Michael,” and performed “Guilty of the Crime” with The Bellamy Brothers at the Grand Ole Opry in 2009. In July 2013, they appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

The concert’s opening act will be the Atlanta-based Haley & Alexis Band, which is a modern country, southern-rock band made up of twin-sisters Haley and Alexis. Suwanee’s Andy Velo, a country music artist known for mixing classic and newer rock country, will be the second act of the night.

The Community Dinner is already sold out, but Cohen said concert tickets are still available and will continue to be sold the day of the concert in the merchants tent at the Anniversary Celebration. The concert will be at The Bowl at Sugar Hill behind City Hall from 7 to 10 p.m. General admission tickets for the concert are $25.
