The Big Chill Blu-ray (R)

Movie: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars

Disc: 4 out of 4 stars

While certainly not the greatest production of its decade, filmmaker Lawrence Kasdan’s 1983 movie was the first to examine mortality from the baby boomer perspective. After the suicide of one of their friends (a never-seen Kevin Costner), a group of his fellow college friends spend a few days discussing love, death, sex and their own assorted shortcomings in a manner that is at once insightful and mundane. Featuring a soundtrack that is second to none, the new Criterion edition boasts an updated pristine print and tons ‘o’ extras.
