Georgians can expect a delay in services, including processing of food stamps and other programs, due to the closure of offices for two days for the winter storm.
Officials with the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Family and Children Services said the closure will impact the processing of recent food stamp and Medicaid applications.
The inability of mail carriers to access and deliver the agency’s mail has meant that 130,000 notices involving those programs as well as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families will be delayed.
Clients will not suffer a loss of benefits due to the delay, a press release said, noting a majority of the notices involved informing clients of recent changes to their cases, while less than 1 percent were reminders of renewal dates for food stamp clients.
While the mail has been delayed, officials urge clients to access their notices electronically by logging on to My Compass accounts at www.compass.ga.gov.
