WRESTLING ROUNDUP: Parkview edges Brookwood in Battle of Five Forks

Parkview claimed the Battle of Five Forks trophy last Wednesday with a narrow 39-36 win over rival Brookwood. The Broncos had won the previous two years against Parkview.

Parkview got pins from Reese Dalton (106), Daniel Webb (113), Kamaal Shakur (145), Will Anderson (160) and Brien Washington. However, the deciding points were determined by Andrew Webb’s technical fall at 138 and Alex Pham’s major decision at 195.

The Broncos got pins from Stephen Solamon (182), Jonathan Bridges (220), Jeremy Quarshie (285) and Thanh Nguyen (120) and a forfeit to Ezekiel Johnston at 132. Miles Nolan (152) and Ethan Cole (126) won by decision.

Lanier places second at Tara Classic

JONESBORO — Lanier had seven wrestlers place in the top four to place second at the Tara Classic on Saturday.

Forest Park won the tournament with 160 points, followed by Lanier’s 134 and Newnan’s 126 points.

Grey Williams (152), Zack Garner (170) and Jeremy Taylor (195) were tournament champions. Gustavo Flores (138) and Jacob Ogi (160) were second.

Kristian Batallas (113) was third and Justin Hunter (285) was fourth.

Archer beats state champ Commerce

LAWRENCEVILLE — Archer completed its dual season on Wednesday with a 45-13 win over Class A state champion Commerce. Archer, the Class AAAAAA state champs, also defeated Kennesaw Mountain 54-6 to finish the dual season 24-0.

Duluth’s Brown, Jones place first

SNELLVILLE — Duluth’s Alex Brown and Rodney Jones placed first at the North Metro Invitational on Saturday at Brookwood.

The Wildcats’ Ben Greer also placed first at the Down The Creek JV tournament.

Archer JV wins King Of The Hill

SUWANEE — Archer had nine wrestlers place to win the junior varsity King Of The Hill for the second year in a row at Collins Hill on Saturday. The 34-team tournament is regarded as the toughest JV tournament in the state.

The Tigers scored 242.5 points to beat Gilmer (203.5), Commerce (196.5), Collins Hill (174.5) and Mountain View (166).

Archer’s Robbie Armstrong (220 pounds) and Taylor Stein (285) placed first, while Avery Grizzle (138), Dillon Bliss (145) and Isaiah Pryor (170) were second. Braden Forth (160) and C.J. Beasley (182) were third, Noah Llorens (195) was fourth and Ryan Bolanos (126) was fifth.

Collins Hill had seven placers led by tournament champion Michael Ilardi at 126 pounds

Tariq Malik (98), Dayquan Larcher (132) and Kyle Weaver (182) were second.

Josh Harger (113) was third, A.J. Wellington (220) was fourth and Quincy Ward (152) was sixth.

Mountain View had seven tournament placers, including champion Sam Ezzell at 113 pounds. Sawyer Soucie (195) was second, Malik Johnson (285) was third, Tyler Watkins (138) was fourth, Ethan Collins (132) and Jake Adams (145) were fifth and Spencer Manuel (220) was sixth.

GAC, which placed 10th, had four tournament placers. The Spartans were led by tournament champion Ian Politz at 120 pounds. Kevin Shrake (126) was third, Isaac Na (132) was fourth and Brian Nguyen (113) was fifth.

Parkview’s Hasan Corley (152) was second and Daniel Webb (98) was sixth.

Central Gwinnett’s Elijah Robertson (170) and Jamar McEachern (182) were sixth.

North Gwinnett’s Tanner Wadsworth (285) was sixth.
