WEATHER WATCH: Cancellations and closings

LAWRENCEVILE — The winter storm approaching the Gwinnett area has caused several schools to close early today and on Wednesday.

Gwinnett County Public Schools officials called off all after-school and evening activities, spokeswoman Sloan Roach said.

"Obviously we want to make sure kids get on the buses safely," Roach said.

She said a decision hasn't been made yet about Wednesday's schedule.

Georgia Gwinnett College closed at 2 p.m. today, while a decision for Wednesday’s classes will be decided by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, spokeswoman Sally Ramey said.

Gwinnett Technical College closed at 3 p.m. today and will remain closed on Wednesday.

Providence Christian Academy and Ivy Prep Academy have each called off all after-school activities.

Buford City Schools also announced it would release students an hour early this afternoon.

Greater Atlanta Christian announced that it closed at 2 p.m., and called off all after-school activities.

Also today:

  • All Gwinnett County Health Department locations are closed for the remainder of today.
  • All Gwinnett Tax Commissioner offices, including all motor vehicle tag offices closed at 2:30 p.m. today.
  • The 1818 Club in Duluth will close at 3 p.m.
  • Suwanee City Council meeting has been postponed until 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
  • A 3 p.m. ribbon cutting with the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners about a federally-funded kitchen for senior services has been canceled.
  • Lilburn Municipal Court has been canceled.
  • Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners meeting postponed.
  • Duluth city offices closed at 1 p.m.
