A winter storm warning is in effect for Gwinnett County until 7 a.m. tomorrow, but the bigger concern may be areas south of the metro area.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City says a "significant" winter storm is likely to hit the area on this morning, with the advisory extending into Wednesday afternoon.
Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible across the area, with heavier amounts in central Georgia.
"Snow and ice covered roads will make travel difficult or impossible Tuesday night into Wednesday," an alert stated. "Ice accumulation on tress and power lines may down large limbs and cause power outages."
The NWS urges residents to prepare now for the storm.
As of Tuesday morning, no cancelations or early releases have been announced for Gwinnett County Public Schools.
Gwinnett Technical College will be closed this evening.
