Former Gwinnett basketball coach Tony Watkins hit a major career milestone over the weekend.

The veteran coach, in his first season at Lambert, earned his 600th career victory when his team defeated McIntosh 56-52 Saturday night. The victory pushed his career record to 600-264.

Watkins spent the previous two seasons at the head girls coach at Parkview, rolling up a 59-2 record with a pair of Region 8-AAAAAA titles. After his first 14 seasons of head coaching as Woodward Academy’s boys coach, Watkins was a head coach in Gwinnett for 13 of the previous 14 years with stints with the Shiloh boys (six), North Gwinnett girls (four) and Lanier boys (one) in addition to his latest position at Parkview.

Watkins took the Lambert girls job last spring. His assistant coach is Jaime Kruppa Fisher, who was previously the head girls coach at South Gwinnett.
