NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Gwinnett Gladiators gutted out a 2-1 victory over South Carolina on Tuesday.
Gwinnett has won six of its last eight games and three straight. Two of those most recent wins are over division rival and league leading South Carolina. Brad Phillips has played between the pipes both of those games against the Stingrays and has allowed just one goal. He made 29 saves Tuesday at the North Charleston Coliseum.
The Gladiators grabbed a 1-0 lead at 16:56 of the second period.
Brenden Walker scored his sixth goal of the season with assists from Kurtis Bartliff and Jonathan Narbonne.
Captain Joey Haddad doubled Gwinnett’s lead at 16:57 of the third period, but South Carolina answered just 38 seconds later to stay in striking distance.
The Gladiators closed out the win, though, and now have a few days off before a doubleheader at home against Orlando on Friday and Saturday.
