LILBURN Virginia Burdine Virginia Lee Smith Burdine, 83 of Lilburn, GA went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, December 30, 2013. Mrs. Burdine was the fourth oldest child of 16 children born to Adolphus and Pearl Smith of Clarkesville, GA. Their family later moved to Eatonton, GA. After graduating from Eatonton High School, Mrs. Burdine moved into a boarding house in Midtown Atlanta in the early 1950s and rode the bus to her job at a downtown furniture store. During this time, she met and fell in love with her bus driver, Martin Burdine. They were married in 1957 and lived in Decatur until they relocated to Gwinnett County in 1967. Mrs. Burdine was a skilled seamstress; she delighted in making exceptional clothing for her children and younger siblings. She designed and created beautiful garments for local Atlanta clients as well as major corporations such as Milliken Fabrics and Vogue Patterns. She was able to work from home and raise her two daughters, Debra and Rochelle. After her girls reached their teens, she took a job as a customer service representative with G.E. Capital Corporation. She enjoyed working with the public. She retired from GECC in 1992. Mrs. Burdine is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Martin P. Burdine, Jr.; sisters: Edith Galloway, Willene Batty, Margaret Bryant, Laura Smith, Mary Jo Rogers, Dona Dell Pesosky and brothers: Randolph Smith, Grady Smith and Raymond Smith. She is survived by her loving and devoted daughters: Debra (Tim) Secrist, Peach Creek, WV, Rochelle Burdine, Atlanta, GA; grandchildren: Paul, Ben and Hannah Secrist, Peach Creek, WV; sister: Louise (John) Morrison, San Antonio, TX; brothers: Homer Smith, Saginaw, TX, Frank Smith, LaGrange, GA, Ross Smith, LaGrange, GA, Howard (Pat) Smith, Gray, GA, Alley Smith, Eatonton, GA and a host of caring nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested donations to Buckhead Christian Ministry, Atlanta, GA. She loved participating in their Adopt-A-Family Program each Christmas to help families in need. A public graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Duluth, GA.
