Five statewide traffic fatalities, none in Gwinnett over New Year's

The Georgia State Patrol reported five traffic fatalities during the New Year’s travel period. None were in Gwinnett County.

Across the state, GSP responded to 137 crashes during the 30-hour period between 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve and midnight Wednesday. Fifty-two injuries were reported in those crashes.

The Georgia State Patrol investigated one fatal accident in Cartersville, but four more were reported by others agencies: Marietta police, Waycross police and two by the Cobb County Police Department.

Much like last week’s Christmas travel window, Gwinnett County saw no fatal crashes during the New Year’s period. Over New Year’s, online records showed 29 people were booked into the Gwinnett County jail on charges of driving under the influence.

Last New Year’s, seven traffic fatalities were reported statewide.
