This Sunday Garden Plaza, a senior living community center in Lawrenceville, and Girl Scout Troop 14232 will sell Girl Scout cookies to support the United States Armed Forces. For every box of cookies purchased at the event, Garden Plaza and its sister location, The Bridge, will donate a box to be shipped to soldiers abroad.
The cookies will be shipped to Afghanistan, Germany, South Korea and anywhere else where American soldiers are stationed to give them a taste of home. Donations will also be taken for those in the military.
Troop 14232 is raising funds for its Silver Award project — the highest honor bestowed to sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade Cadettes. The Silver Award project is a 50-hour service project designed to have a lasting effect on the community.
In addition to the funds raised for the troop, the girls will also have the satisfaction of helping others.
“Just knowing that they’re sending cookies over to men and women who are protecting our country really means a lot to our girls,” said Troop Leader Jenny Black. “We often get letters from the troops overseas telling the girls that they’ve gotten their cookies and giving their thanks.”
Cookies are $3.50 per box and are available for sale from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Garden Plaza, which is located at 230 Collins Industrial Way in Lawrenceville. For more information, call 770-236-8333.
