Arguably the finest rock ‘n’ roll documentary ever produced, “Muscle Shoals” is chock-full of interviews and performances from a who’s who of musical royalty who recorded at or (in the case of Bono from U2) was influenced by the music coming from a patch of swamp land in north Alabama. Rivaled only by Motown (Detroit) and Stax/Volt (Memphis), the (first one, eventually two) studios in Muscle Shoals were the go-to locations for rock and soul artists from the mid-1960s through the late 1980s and the list of hits made there is beyond exhaustive. Loaded with eerie atmosphere and an engrossing non-musical sub-plot, this is an absolute must-own for all rock and R&B fans.
