LAWRENCEVILLE — The Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team took the first game of its weekend series against Voorhees (S.C) by a score of 25-1 at the Grizzly Baseball Complex in Lawrenceville Friday night.
Six Grizzlies had multiple RBIs, including Kyle Norton with three runs driven in. Eight Georgia Gwinnett players scored multiple runs, led by Eli Green who crossed the plate three times.
Starter Alex Roberts (3-0) picked up his team-leading third win of the season, allowing only a pair of hits while striking out four batters. Tyler Oglesby and Zeke McGranahan each threw an inning of relief and both struck out two.
The game ended in the fifth inning.
GGC (9-3) scored two runs in the first inning without recording a hit. Robbie Payne and Jake Fields both had sacrifice flies to score Phillip Bates and Christian Van Camp, who reached on walks.
The flood gates opened in the second inning as the Grizzlies piled on to score 10 times, featuring doubles by Van Camp, Ty Abbott and Fields. Sloan Strickland had a pair of singles in the frame and scored twice. Fifteen batters came to the plate during the rally.
An RBI single by Garitt Church and a bases-loaded hit by pitch plated two more runs for GGC in the third inning.
Georgia Gwinnett put eleven more runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, needing just one hit. The Grizzlies took advantage of eight walks, three hit batsmen and two errors in the frame.
Voorhees (0-6) scored its run in the top of the fifth inning with a triple and an RBI single.
The two teams will conclude their series with a doubleheader on Saturday in Lawrenceville starting at 1 p.m.
