37 Main

Open since: December 2008

Owners: David White and Joseph White

Location: 37 Main is on East Main Street in downtown Buford.

Atmosphere: The rock venue has an 80s and classic rock feel to it with lots of neon lights and the guitars and cymbals of past performers hanging from the red walls. There are four full bars, a dance room in the basement called 37˚ Below, and three rows of tables in the main room with the stage.

Venue offerings: 37 Main is a bar, a music venue and a restaurant all in one, providing Gwinnett residents the opportunity to get a taste of Atlanta rock culture without venturing past the perimeter.

Musical acts range from cover bands to nationally-touring bands to local musicians. Some of the nationally-recognized acts include Foghat, Drivin’ N’ Cryin’, Fuel and Candlebox. Many of the cover bands are nationally recognized as well, such as Strange Days, a Doors cover band out of Los Angeles. On the opposite end of the spectrum, local musicians such as Andy Velo play regular shows at the venue as well.

Fridays and Saturdays are reserved for the main musical acts, but Thursdays and Sundays showcase the Dueling Piano Show, a comedy sing-along-request show in which Damian Cartier and his team of musicians take on whatever musical requests audiences throw at them.

The drink menu has lots to offer, with cleverly-named mixed drinks and martinis such as the Velvet Elvis, Lemon Drops of Jupiter and The Grapeful Dead. 37 Main also has 11 different beers on draft and dozens in bottles, as well as a handful of red and white wines.

The dinner menu consists of Southern-style bar food that goes well with beer. Appetizer favorites include jumbo wings, candy bacon, Santa Fe spring rolls and fried pickles. Many of the appetizers are served with homemade Coca-Cola barbecue sauce. For main dishes, there are five different kinds of tacos, 18 different burgers and a full menu of “Headliners,” which range from chicken and waffles to chef seasoned salmon. The majority of sauces and seasonings are made fresh in house.

Things you might not know: The building where 37 Main is located was constructed in 1864, and its vintage feel was what inspired the owners to buy the property and open a rock club there.

Owner David said that he wanted to create a good atmosphere for his music bar, but that he and his brother Joe didn’t want to operate a “dingy, smoky bar.” They take pride in the clean, fresh environment inside their establishment.

37 Main has had a few weddings and wedding receptions at the bar and plans include expanding the upstairs section of the building into a private party room.
