SUWANEE — Gwinnett’s newest school received its principal appointment at a regular school board meeting Thursday.
Northbrook Middle, the new middle school in the Peachtree Ridge cluster located at 1221 Northbrook Parkway in Suwanee, is scheduled to open in August, and it’s the first new school to open in the district since Moore Middle in Lawrenceville in 2011.
Keith Thompson, an assistant principal at Osborne Middle since 2011, will open Northbrook as its new principal. Thompson previously was an assistant principal at GIVE Center West from 2009-11. Thompson began his career as a science and math teacher and coach in Augusta.
Thompson earned degrees from Augusta State University, Cambridge College and Argosy University.
Northbrook Middle will be the second middle school in the Peachtree Ridge cluster relieving Hull Middle by about 900 students. Students in the Jackson Elementary attendance zone will feed into Northbrook Middle.
The new principal at GIVE Center East is Shiloh High Assistant Principal Durrant Williams, who will replace the retiring Principal Jay Paschall.
Williams previously worked as a counselor and assistant principal at Berkmar High from 2006 to 2013. He also was a counselor in West Palm Beach County, Fla. Williams earned degrees from St. Thomas University and the University of West Georgia.
GIVE Center East is an alternative school in Lawrenceville that aims to “provide its students with the appropriate individual, academic, and behavioral interventions which will enable them to successfully assimilate to the home school environment and prepare them for the opportunities that await them in post-academic endeavors.”
