The Collins Hill community will host a candlelight memorial service 7 p.m. Saturday at the high school campus to honor Lizzie Lohmar, a former soccer player and runner for the Eagles who passed away last week after a pedestrian accident.
The memorial service will feature a balloon release — attendees are asked to bring pink or white balloons — as well as time for friends to share their memories of Lohmar. Those who don't wish to speak can bring prepared remarks that can be read during the celebration of her life. Candles will be provided.
Lohmar, 21, was hit by a truck Feb. 5 and died from her injuries Feb. 8. According to the Valdosta Police Department media relase, Lohmar was walking across the intersection of North Patterson Street and East College Street at 12:37 p.m. on the proper pedestrian light when she was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado turning south on North Patterson Street.
Lohmar was an accomplished multi-sport athlete at Collins Hill, contributing heavily there in soccer after a long club career with Atlanta Fire United. She played her freshman season on Valdosta State’s club soccer team and then played in 2011 on the university’s inaugural team. After that, she focused on her studies and gave up soccer.
