Gwinnett Kidsignments closed due to weather

Snow and ice caused the closing Wednesday of one of Gwinnett’s biggest annual sales, Kidsignments.

While the annual mega consignment event had a light crowd during its opening day Tuesday, officials closed the sale on Wednesday, as the county is under a state of emergency.

According to a Facebook post, the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, where the sale is held, became a staging area for Georgia Power, which brought in thousands of workers to deal with expected power outages during the storm.

“We will be working on a contingency plan for possible changes to our event date/times and will update here as soon as can changes are confirmed to possibly allow additional shopping times,” the post said. “We thank all of our phenomenal volunteers for their dedication to this event. … The weather that is occurring is completely out of our control and in God’s hands.”

Any updates will be posted to the Facebook site, officials added.

The closing is the first in the sale’s 20-year history.
