Outlook: While the Panthers won the state championship last season, they weren’t built as a one-year wonder. Many of their key players during the title run were young, leaving bright hopes for the next few seasons. Duke commitment Emma Carlson had 27 goals and five assists last season, with most of her production coming late in the regular season and the postseason. Region 8-AAAAAA goalkeeper of the year Mariah Garner, one of the heroes of the state title match, also is back.

Other key players/newcomers: DEF Latia Jones, Sr.; GK Ariana Bryant, Soph.; DEF Marisol Estrada, Soph.; F Paula Maldonado, Soph.

Outlook: A loss to eventual state champion Parkview in a difficult, second-round matchup ended the 2013 season, marking the fourth straight year that Collins Hill has lost in the playoffs to the eventual state champ. The Eagles’ returnees are strong in the attack, with Georgia Southern signee Paige Hoover (18 goals, 12 assists) leading the way from the midfield alongside Dena Cisic. Desiree Bowen and Kelsey Lawrence also combined for 18 goals and 13 assists last year. The key to success will be filling the holes on defense left by graduation.

Coach: Lauren Dodson

2013 record/playoff finish: 9-7, state first round

Returning starters: MF Hannah Huizenga, Sr.; GK Tiffany Sornpao, Soph.; DEF Lexie Luther, Sr.; DEF Rebecca Miller, Sr.; F Sarah Miller, Sr.; MF Madison Whitley, Sr.; MF Klaudia Cancino, Soph.

College of Charleston signee Hannah Huizenga (18 goals, 13 assists) and dynamic goalkeeper Tiffany Sornpao are among the top returnees for an experienced team that also features seniors Madison Whitley, Lexie Luther, Sarah Miller and Rebecca Miller.

Returning starters: F Leslie Ceballos, Jr.; MF Valerie Gutierrez, Jr.; DEF Iridian Marquina, Jr.; MF/F Milago Mejia, Jr.; GK/DEF Sandy Prado, Jr.; F Hilda Trochez, Soph.; DEF Laura Juvencio, Sr.; DEF Sarahi Bueno, Jr.

Other key players/newcomers: MF/F Nayeli Espinoza, Soph.; DEF Kimberly Serrano, Fr.

Outlook: Meadowcreek’s recent improvements could continue this season if a large junior class keeps developing.

Outlook: Brent Leitsch built the Hawks into one of the state’s top teams in recent seasons, and new coach Vince Hayes, previously the head coach at region rival Duluth, inherits the program. Graduation took a heavy toll on Mill Creek, which must replace among others Georgia signee and Daily Post player of the year Lauren Tanner (37 goals, nine assists) and goalkeeper Rachel Allred.

Mountain View

Coach: Kristina Marchman

2013 record: 11-7

Returning starters: F Jordan Lewter, Sr.; F Maddie Stephen, Sr.; F Jenna McEachern, Sr.; F Arielle Silvers, Jr.; F Jordan Browne, Jr.; MF Nicki Willis, Sr.; MF Rachel Dykes, Soph.; MF Karla Gonzalez, Soph; DEF Jordan Shapiro, Sr.; DEF Kat Saunders, Sr.; DEF Meghan Revell, Soph.; DEF Erika Lupuloff, Soph.; DEF Hannah Shapiro, Soph.; GK Kennedy White, Sr.; GK Leanne Francis, Sr.

Other key players/newcomers: MF Kaitlin Mayer, Jr.; MF Kara Henderson, Fr.; F Natalie Simon, Fr.

Outlook: After narrowly missing the playoffs in a tough region, Norcross wants to break through this spring with a veteran team. Among the top returnees are forwards Jordan Lewter (13 goals, 12 assists) and Maddie Stephen (Georgia College and State University signee). The Blue Devils also added center midfielder transfer Kaitlin Mayer, a starter last season on Greater Atlanta Christian’s state runner-up team.

Returning starters: F Raina Davis, Jr.; F Katie Strand, Jr.; MF Caroline Gualdoni, Sr.; MF Amanda Delgado, Jr.; MF Stephanie Lee, Jr.; DEF Meaghan Powell, Sr.; DEF Caroline Shimkus, Sr.; DEF Devin Gaskill, Jr.

Other key players/newcomers: GK Mackenzie York, Jr.; MF Kendall Welkley, Jr.; MF Andrea Herrera, Sr.; DEF Jordan Goldring, Sr.

Outlook: Replacing the graduated Taylor Burns, who scored 83 career goals, won’t be easy but the Bulldogs have some depth at forward. They also have Georgia signee Caroline Gualdoni in the central midfield, while Caroline Shimkus anchors the central defense.

Returning starters: GK Cosette Morche, Jr.; F Briana Bagnasco, Jr.; MF McKay Culberson, Soph.; F Allie Hoxie, Soph.; F Jordyn Missel, Jr.; DEF/F Kinsey Dziwura, Soph.; F Erica Misener, Jr.; DEF Phoebe Palmer, Sr.; DEF Kayla Thomas, Jr.; MF Ashley Balmforth, Sr.; MF/F Rebecca Owens, Jr.; MF Nicole Misener, Sr.; MF Amanda Ferry, Jr.; DEF Sumer Culberson, Sr.

Other key players/newcomers: MF Kim Santos, Soph.; DEF Dorian McGraw, Fr.; F Erin Harris, Fr.; MF/F Grace Green, Fr.; MF Smriti Singh, Jr.; MF/F Sydney Kohne, Fr.; MF Courtney Miller, Sr.

Outlook: In a difficult region, the Lions just missed out on a playoff trip last season. Earning that postseason berth is a goal this year thanks to a solid group of returnees, including defensive leader Kinsey Dziwura (11 goals, three assists last season), playmaker Jordyn Missel (11 goals, four assists) and defenders Phoebe Palmer and Sumer Culberson. Tall goalkeeper Cosette Morche also gives Peachtree Ridge another impact player.

Coach: Jack Hughes

2013 record/playoff finish: 13-6, state second round

Returning starters: F Tori Wyant, Sr.; MF/DEF Samantha Helmink, Sr.; MF/F Bethany Blanton, Sr.; MF Casey Wilkes, Sr.; DEF Alyssa Santana, Sr.; DEF Edith Perrotti, Sr.; MF/F Maddie Corley, Jr.; MF Amy Groth, Jr.; GK Emily Polanco, Soph.

Other key players/newcomers: MF Ashley Burton, Jr.; MF Beatriz Calva, Fr.; DEF Brooke Gatzmeyer, Jr.; DEF Roxiana Amieva, Sr.; MF Aleaka Cooper, Sr.

Outlook: The Wolves proved themselves state-wide last season, advancing to the Final Four before losing a high-scoring showdown with eventual state champion St. Pius. Nearly every contributor is back off that team, including forwards Elexa Bahr (24 goals, three assists) and Ceely Coker (24 goals, 14 assists) and Brie Smith (15 goals, eight assists). Defensive leader Jessie Vaverka and goalkeeper Lane Crawford also return.

Coach: Troy Bendickson

2013 record/playoff finish: 19-2, state runner-up

Returning starters: MF Heather Ferrari, Sr.; DEF Brynn Finneran, Sr.; DEF Tayler McPherson, Sr.; F Danielle Marcano, Jr.; DEF Abbie Abrahart, Jr.

Other key players/newcomers: F Halle Huff, Jr.; MF/F Kaylann Boyd, Soph.; DEF Tori Wisted, Soph.; GK Melissa Gray, Soph.; MF/DEF Katie Irwin, Jr.; F Reagan Glisson, Fr.

Outlook: It was nearly another state championship season for GAC last spring, but a first-half deficit in the title game proved too much to overcome. It’s difficult to replace a loaded senior class led by high-scoring Georgia signee Rachel Garcia, but the Spartans have strong talent back like Tennessee commitment Danielle Marcano, North Georgia signee Brynn Finneran, Belmont signee Heather Ferrari, center back Tayler McPherson, left back Abbie Abrahart and Georgia Southern commit Halle Huff. Marcano had eight goals and seven assists last season, splitting time between forward and right back.

Coach: Lacy Gilbert

Outlook: A rough 2013 regular season of rebuilding was followed up by a nice run to the Final Four. That playoff experience gave the Wolves confidence, as did playing in a difficult region that produced all four state semifinal teams last year.

Other key players/newcomers: DEF Derien Bender; DEF Taylor Garner; MF Hannah Lentz; MF Emma Boyd; F Mikayla Burrell; MF Hannah Hardin; DEF Maddi Hardin; DEF Isabelle Sandoval; DEF Savannah Shugart

Returning starters: F Kat Slayton, Sr.; F Robyn Lowndes, Sr.; F Savannah Flynn, Sr.; DEF/MF Brittany Tuttle, Sr.; DEF Ashley Thompson, Jr.; MF Anna Bougas, Jr.; DEF Audrey Park, Soph.; MF Bekah Henry, MF

Other key players/newcomers: GK Anna Lee Garner, Jr.; DEF Rachel Lowery, Fr.; GK Mallory Larson, Fr.; DEF Kelsey Hoskin, DEF

Outlook: The Storm’s 2013 season ended with a second-round loss to the eventual state champion, leaving a hunger for more success this season. Plenty of talent returns off that team, including Kat Slayton (16 goals, 13 assists) and Robyn Lowndes (nine goals, 13 assists) at forward, as well as Georgia commitment Bougas in the midfield.
