LAWRENCEVILLE — An overturned tractor-trailer shut down part of Hurricane Shoals Road for several hours Thursday.

Lawrenceville police Capt. Greg Vaughn said that a tractor-trailer approaching Ga. Highway 316 from the south attempted to navigate the sharp turn of Hurricane Shoals Road, flipping after as the “load possibly shifted.” The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. Thursday near one entrance to the Gwinnett County Airport at Briscoe Field.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash but a stretch of the road was closed for hours.

The truck was turned upright but crews had to clean up diesel fuel spilled in the accident, Vaughn said. The intersection was completely reopened before 5 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, a second tractor-trailer overturned Thursday snarling rush hour traffic along Ga. Highway 20 just off Interstate 85.

Cpl. Jake Smith, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department said the wreck appeared to be a single-vehicle accident with minor injury to the driver, who was not transported to the hospital.
