LAWRENCEVILLE — Four-and-a-half months later, the man charged in a grisly triple homicide outside Snellville is in the Gwinnett County jail.
Robert Erik Bell was arrested at a New Orleans, La., homeless shelter in late October, about five weeks after police believe he shot and killed three people — including a 12-year-old boy — on Anderson Livsey Lane. Records show he was extradited last week and booked into the Gwinnett County jail just after 7 p.m. Friday.
In a chilling reminder of what allegedly happened on the night of Sept. 15, 2013, Bell’s booking sheet listed his address 4630 Anderson Livsey Lane.
Gwinnett County police believe Bell, 34, and his wife had fallen on hard times and been taken in recently by Angelina Benton, whose family lived at the aforementioned address outside of Snellville. Within a few weeks, Benton, 12-year-old son Joseph McDonald, 19-year-old godson Raynard Daniel and 23-year-old boyfriend Justin Cato would all come home to gunfire.
According to authorities, Bell was armed and waiting inside the home on Sept. 15, when the family returned from a short trip in his own SUV. McDonald and Daniel were killed as they entered the home. Benton, 34, was killed in the driveway. Despite being shot in the leg, Cato managed to hide in a ditch and wait for police to arrive.
A month-plus manhunt ensued after Bell — whose wife was in Tennessee at the time — successfully fled the scene. A car stolen near the scene and later recovered in New Orleans helped lead police to Bell, who was hiding out at a homeless shelter.
A potential motive for the shooting remains unclear.
Bell is charged with three counts of murder and a single count of aggravated assault. He is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County jail.
