Gwinnett County fire and police officials responded to the Mall of Georgia after a man fell from a third floor balcony on Sunday afternoon.
Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Rich Long said the man purchased a ticket at the Regal Cinemas movie theatre and was sitting on a nearby railing.
An employee asked the man to move when there was "some sort of exchange," Long said.
The man, who appeared to be in his 40s, struck the second floor, before landing on the ground level near the food court.
"We are unsure if this was intentional or not," Long said.
Crews treated and transported the patient to a local area hospital.
"I don't know his full medical status, but he was alive when taken by ambulance," Long said.
Mall officials declined to provide any further details, but said: "Our thoughts are with the person involved with this incident."
Police continue to investigate.
