Second suspect arrested in 'heartbreaking' animal cruelty case

A second suspect was arrested Thursday in a “heartbreaking and disturbing” case of animal cruelty.

Late last month, Snellville police were called to 3082 Parkside Court by two concerned parties who had discovered a black pitbull with electrical tape wrapped around its mouth.

“The mouth portion was extremely swollen and the dog could not open its mouth,” the responding officer wrote in their report. “The end of the tongue was sticking out of its mouth and the mouth was bleeding. The dog appeared very skinny and emaciated.”

The tape appeared to be old but was “very tight,” police said.

Neighbors identified the alleged owner by pointing to his car and saying his name was Antonio. On March 27, Antonio Lashon Furlow was arrested and charged with felony cruelty to animals. He was released April 10 after posting $22,200 bond.

Warrants were ultimately issued for Furlow’s roommate, Brandon Kaile Duncan. He was arrested late Thursday night by Gwinnett County sheriff’s deputies and is being held without bond.

The dog was expected to survive and taken initially to East Animal Hospital.

“The sight of the dog was heartbreaking and disturbing to all involved,” the incident report said.
