LAWRENCEVILLE — A Gwinnett County inmate has been charged in an alleged murder-for-hire plot.
Norcross resident Jeffrey Van Ngo was originally arrested March 29 and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. While in the Gwinnett County jail, he allegedly tried to hire someone to kill an acquaintance.
“Jeffrey Van Ngo was served with additional arrest warrants (Tuesday) at the Gwinnett County jail after he attempted to hire an undercover deputy to murder Cuong Nguyen,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman Deputy Shannon Volkodav said.
Volkodav declined to release further details on the incident and said she couldn’t divulge how authorities were tipped off to Ngo’s alleged plot.
“We know that Ngo and Nguyen know each other, but we are still investigating motive,” she said.
Ngo is now facing additional charges of conspiracy to commit a felony crime and criminal attempt to commit a felony crime. He is being held without bond.
