PREP ROUNDUP: McCain shuts down Bears in Collins Hill win

LAWRENCEVILLE — Mitch McCain pitched a complete-game shutout as Collins Hill defeated Mountain View 2-0 on Tuesday in Region 7-AAAAAA baseball action.

McCain scattered seven hits and struck out four. He also helped his own cause by driving in a run. Trevor Powers had two hits and drove in the other run for the Eagles, who improved to 5-6 in the region with the win.

Ben Utley had three hits and Cameron Hankins had two for Mountain View (18-4, 9-3).

BASEBALL

Duluth 2, Habersham Central 0

DULUTH — Graham Parris pitched a complete-game shutout to lift Duluth past Habersham Central 2-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA on Tuesday.

Parris allowed only five hits and struck out seven for the Wildcats (6-15, 4-7). Jose Ponce and Kyle Yancey drove in runs for Duluth.

Mill Creek 12, Meadowcreek 1

HOSCHTON — Jack Fleming went the distance and Mill Creek rolled to a 12-1 win over Meadowcreek on Tuesday.

Fleming struck out eight as the Hawks improved to 13-9 overall and 9-3 in Region 7-AAAAAA. Kyle Abernathy and Cameron Turley had four and three hits, respectively, for Mill Creek.

Buford 10, Banks County 1

HOMER — Four Buford pitchers combined to strike out 17 batters as the Wolves defeated Banks County 10-1 on Tuesday.

Kevin Coulter started, went four innings and struck out 10. Keyton Gibson, Nick Wilhite and Griffin Jolliff each pitched an inning in relief.

Austin Wilhite and Patrick Burnette each had two hits for Buford (19-1, 15-1). Joey Bart had two hits and drove in two runs for the Wolves.

Providence Christian 3,

Lakeview Academy 2

GAINESVILLE — Providence Christian defeated Lakeview Academy 3-2 on Tuesday. Garrett Whitlock pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out seven.

Carey Spratlin and Evan Porter led the Storm (12-9, 10-4) with two hits each.

Westminster 3, Wesleyan 1

ATLANTA — Westminster defeated Wesleyan 3-1 on Tuesday. Colin Hall drove in the game’s only run for the Wolves, who with the loss, dropped to 5-2 in the region.

BRASELTON — Mountain View defeated Collins Hill 119-133 in a match played at Chateau Elan Country Club on Tuesday. Hannah Magda led the Bears with a 38.

JOHNS CREEK — Wesleyan defeated Mt. Pisgah 84-100 in a match played at St. Ives Country Club. Alissa Yang led the Wolves with a 37.

DACULA — Hebron Christian defeated George Walton Academy 113-139 in a match played at Hamilton Mill Country Club. Reece Brooks led the Lions with a 44.

DACULA — George Walton Academy defeated Hebron Christian 168-188 in a match played at Hamilton Mill Country Club.

George Walton’s Thomas Hodges was the low medalist shooting a 41. Stephen Rogers, Tommy Walsh and Ryan Bilancini all shot 46 to lead the Lions.

BOYS LACROSSE

Peachtree Ridge 18,

Parkview 5

LILBURN — Peachtree Ridge defeated Parkview 18-5 on Tuesday.

Zane Ashley had three goals, two assists and nine ground balls to lead the Lions (9-3). Ben Briggette and Jacob Lee each had four goals while Michael Pinkstaff scored three times.

Ethan Bish had seven ground balls and two assists while Matt Dominguez had six ground balls and a goal for Peachtree Ridge.

Wesleyan 10, Buford 7

NORCROSS — Wesleyan beat Buford 10-7 on Tuesday. Matt Zimmerman recorded a hat trick for the Wolves (9-4, 5-3).

Josh Garrard added two goals and Garrett Bottlich had eight ground balls for Wesleyan.

GIRLS LACROSSE

River Ridge 20, Norcross 12

NORCROSS — Norcross fell to River Ridge 20-12 on Tuesday. Maddie Dogleski had six goals to lead the Blue Devils. Rachel Holmes added five goals for Norcross.

GIRLS TENNIS

North advances to region championship match

HOSCHTON — North Gwinnett defeated Collins Hill 3-1 and then Peachtree Ridge 3-2 on Tuesday to move into Thursday’s championship match of the Region 7-AAAAAA tournament.

In the opening round against the Eagles, Lane Kunin and Isabel Balsavage won singles matches. The doubles duo of Emma Etelalahti and Vanessa Euesbio was also victorious.

In the semifinals, Etelalahti and Eusebio and Lauren Layton and Mimi Zhang won in doubles, while Jada Tijani won in singles for the Bulldogs ( 14-4).

Mill Creek headed to finals

HOSCHTON — Mill Creek defeated Duluth 3-0 and then Norcross 3-2 on Tuesday to move into the championship match of the Region 7-AAAAAA tournament.

Madison Hahn and Abbi Jordan won singles matches for the Hawks against Duluth. Emily Husfeld and Katie Hill were winners in doubles.

In the semifinals, Husfeld and Hill won along with Madison Walsh and Madeline Hill. Hahn won a singles match to propel the top seeded Hawks to Thursday’s finals.

Central Gwinnett 2, Parkview 0

LAWRENCEVILLE — Ricky Ortiz recorded his fifth shutout of the season as Central Gwinnett defeated Parkview (9-6, 4-3) 2-0 on Tuesday.

Sean McKeever and Juan Gonzalez scored for the Black Knights (12-3-1, 7-1).

North Gwinnett 0

SUWANEE — Noah Thomas scored early in the second half and Mill Creek made it stand up as the Hawks defeated North Gwinnett 1-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA on Tuesday.

Jason Chavez recorded the shutout in net for the Hawks (12-2, 6-1).

DULUTH — Duluth defeated Meadowcreek 2-0 to improve its Region 7-AAAAAA record to 4-2 on Tuesday. Daniel Arnstein and Nikolai Iotov scored for the Wildcats.

LAWRENCEVILLE — Four different Grayson players scored as the Rams defeated Archer 4-1 in Region 8-AAAAAA on Tuesday.

Jake Inserra, Thomas Judge, Ryan Sanders and Ben Anderson scored for Grayson (8-7, 2-5). J.P. Munoz had a strong game on defense for the Rams.

SNELLVILLE — Yeeshay Benjamin scored for Shiloh as the Generals defeated Rockdale County 1-0 on Tuesday.

Ozzy Hasanovic recorded the shutout in net for Shiloh.

Brookwood 3, Berkmar 1

SNELLVILLE — Brookwood improved to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA with a 3-1 win over Berkmar on Tuesday.

Brahan Gamarra, Alfredo Rivera and Samaan Williams all scored for the Broncos.

LAWRENCEVILLE — Hebron Christian defeated Towns County 10-0 in a match played at Georgia Gwinnett College.

Cole Redman scored a hat trick for the Lions (12-2, 6-0). Andrew Thompson and Braden Elmer each scored twice while Noah Blaylock, Bailey Pinto and Tyler Smith scored once for Hebron Christian.

NORCROSS — Ryan Marcano and Justin Phan each recorded hat tricks as Greater Atlanta Christian (16-0, 4-0) blanked Fayette County 10-0 on Tuesday.

MONROE — Providence Christian defeated George Walton Academy 1-0 on Tuesday. Ted Cheo scored on a feed from Cam Hall for the Storm (6-8, 5-2). Alex Timm made six saves to record the shutout in net for Providence.

Westminster 3, Wesleyan 2

ATLANTA — Westminster scored three times in the game’s final 20 minutes to overcome a two-goal deficit and defeat Wesleyan 3-2 on Tuesday.

Benji Johnson scored in the first half and Cort Coxhead scored in the second half for the Wolves ( 6-8-1, 1-4).

North Gwinnett 1

SUWANEE — Mill Creek defeated North Gwinnett 2-1 as the Hawks outlasted the Bulldogs 3-1 on penalty kicks.

Mill Creek ( 9-6, 5-2) trailed until there were 16 minutes left in the game and Madison Steimer scored to tie the score at one.

Caroline Youngblood was the goalie in regulation and overtime, but gave way to Madison Jarvis for the penalty kicks. Jarvis made three saves while Steimer, Lauren Navas and Megan Welch scored for the Hawks.

Grayson 5, Archer 0

LAWRENCEVILLE — Grayson remained undefeated as the Rams defeated Archer 5-0 on Tuesday.

Andrea Lazcano, Tessa Craft, Amanda Baker, Allison Pickett and Brittany Montgomery scored for Grayson (14-0-1). Cady Picklesimer recorded the shutout for the Rams.

LAWRENCEVILLE — Six different players scored for Parkview (14-1, 6-1) as the Panthers defeated Central Gwinnett 9-1 in Region 8-AAAAAA on Tuesday.

SNELLVILLE — Paola Ortega scored twice to lead Shiloh to a 4-0 win over Rockdale County on Tuesday.

Caylee Griswold and Karen Detaz-Veliz also scored for the Generals. DeAundra Green recorded the shutout in net for Shiloh.

CUMMING — Collins Hill defeated West Forsyth 3-2 on Tuesday. Dena Cisic recorded a hat trick to lead the Eagles (9-5-1, 5-2).

LAWRENCEVILLE — Mountain View shutout Habersham Central 3-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA on Tuesday’s Senior Night.

Seniors Bree Britton, Shelby Gray and Ashley Lewis all scored for the Bears (8-8, 2-6).

Katie Darby recorded the shutout in net for Mountain View.

SNELLVILLE — Jenny Allen scored a hat trick to lead Brookwood to a 9-0 Region 8-AAAAAA win over Berkmar on Tuesday.

Shelby Middleton and Rebecca Head combined in net for the shutout for the Broncos (15-1, 6-0).

DAHLONEGA — Tori Wyant scored two goals to lift Lanier to a 4-1 win over Lumpkin County on Tuesday.
