LILBURN — The body found Thursday morning in Lilburn has been identified as that of Angela Rabotte, the 26-year-old last seen Saturday in Norcross.
The death is being treated as a homicide.
The body now identified as Rabotte’s was discovered in a wooded area near Lilburn Industrial Boulevard, and members of the Lilburn Police Department, Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation were called in to investigate. Identification was made using photographs and matching tattoo descriptions provided by family, Lilburn police Capt. Thom Bardugon said.
Authorities are treating the death as a homicide but were otherwise tight-lipped. Bardugon declined to say if there was anything specifically leading police to suspect foul play.
“We always treat it as such until we know otherwise,” Bardugon said.
Rabotte was reported missing Sunday. According to previous information released by Gwinnett County police, she had dropped her 3-year-old daughter off with a friend the previous night and attended a party in Atlanta.
Rabotte was last seen at about 6 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Steeplechase Apartments, located at 5940 Singleton Road in Norcross.
Lilburn police will continue to handle the investigation, Bardugon said. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed by Friday.
“The medical examiner will do the autopsy either today or tomorrow,” Bardugon said Thursday. “That will be the best chance to figure out the cause of death.”
