PREP ROUNDUP: Wesleyan mounts huge rally to defeat Lovett

ATLANTA — Wesleyan scored eight runs in the sixth inning to pull even and then added three more runs in the seventh to defeat Lovett 12-10 in Region 6-AA action Thursday at Lovett.

Trailing 9-1 entering the sixth, the Wolves (8-7, 4-1) rallied behind Grant Colton, who smacked two home runs in the inning, the last of which tied the score at 9-all.

Freshman Jordan Ward pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief to get the win. Colins Hall drove in four runs and Jake McCleskey had two key hits for Wesleyan.

BASEBALL

Norcross 13, Habersham Central 0

MT. AIRY — Brooks Buckler pitched a shutout as Norcross defeated Habersham Central 13-0 in six innings Thursday.

Buckler (6-1) went the distance, limiting Habersham to two hits and striking out seven.

Griffin Helms hit a home run and drove in two runs for the Blue Devils (11-7, 4-4 in Region 7-AAAAAA). Trevor Craport and Mike Perez each had two hits for Norcross.

South Gwinnett 8, Berkmar 2

SNELLVILLE — South Gwinnett defeated Berkmar 8-2 in Region 8-AAAAAA on Thursday.

Dominique Jackson pitched five innings to earn the win. Mikey Lee pitched two innings of scoreless relief.

Gabe Tillman and Chad Smith each drove in three runs and Morgan Miller had two hits for the Comets (4-13, 2-5).

Hebron 6, Athens Academy 0

DACULA — Hebron Christian remained unbeaten in Region 8-A by beating Athens Academy 6-0 on Thursday.

Ben Coker pitched 6 2/3 innings to get the win for the Lions ( 13-5, 10-0). Sid Turner and Joey Ruiz led Hebron Christian with three and two hits, respectively.

GIRLS TENNIS

Collins Hill 5, North Oconee 0

BOGART — Collins Hill swept North Oconee 5-0 to improve its record to 7-8 on the season.

Amanda Gautreaux, Drew Banta and Jamie Lunceford won singles matches for the the Eagles. Lexi Owensby and Gabriella Orellana along with Rocqsanna Malek and Emily Wang won in doubles.

Johns Creek 4, Peachtree Ridge 1

JOHNS CREEK — Johns Creek defeated Peachtree Ridge 4-1 on Thursday.

Laura Kelley and Samantha Wang won in doubles for the Lions (8-6, 7-1).

Lanier 4, Mountain View 1

SUGAR HILL — Lanier defeated Mountain View 4-1 to improve to 13-3 on the season.

Lauren Byrd and Victoria Inman won in singles while the doubles tandems of Jenna Soucia and Carlie Overley along with Meg McRee and Lindsey Wong also won for the Longhorns.

GAC 5, North Oconee 0

NORCROSS — Greater Atlanta Christian defeated North Oconee 5-0 on Thursday.

Rachel Chupp, Phoenix Gandy and Julia Bryan were singles winners. The teams of Jenny Armstrong and Micaiah Kimble-Glover and Bailey Brown and Stephanie Breon won doubles matches.

Wesleyan 4, Providence 1

NORCROSS — Wesleyan improved its record to 12-3 with a 4-1 win over Providence Christian on Thursday.

Lauren Alexander and Savannah Strickland won in singles, while Kaitlin English and Leila Jordan, along with Katie McLaughlin and Katie Van Laeke, won in doubles for the Wolves.

BOYS TENNIS

Johns Creek 3, Peachtree Ridge 2

JOHNS CREEK — Peachtree Ridge dropped a 3-2 decision to Johns Creek on Thursday.

Taylor Foote won in singles and Alex Peed and Niki Makarenko won in doubles for the Lions (8-7, 7-1).

Lanier 3, Mountain View 2

SUGAR HILL — Lanier defeated Mountain View 3-2 on Thursday.

Preston Walter and Kevin Wagner won in singles, while Tucker Fuhrman and his partner Nehar Patel won in doubles for the Longhorns (11-5).

Apalachee 5, East Hall 0

WINDER — Apalachee swept East Hall 5-0 to improve to 7-4 on the season.

Dima Sorokopud, Rob Thompson and Chandler Hagan won in singles. Sahil Pate and Trey Hayes along with Hunter Wagler and Cristian Perez won in doubles for the Wildcats.

GAC 3, North Oconee 2

NORCROSS — Greater Atlanta Christian improved to 8-5 on the season with a 3-2 win over North Oconee.

Andrew Chitty won a singles match, while the doubles teams of Kris Ippolito and Stephen Lamb, along with Alex Kahn and Tucker Bryant, won for the Spartans.

Wesleyan 4, Providence 1

NORCROSS — Wesleyan defeated Providence Christian 4-1 on Thursday.

Cole Brown, Cullen Davis and Cody Frost won in singles, as did the doubles duo of Tripp Copenhaver and Edmund Wang for the Wolves (3-12). Bobby Rogers and Christian Holyoak won a doubles match for the Storm.

Grady 9, Duluth 6

DULUTH — Duluth fell to Grady 9-6 on Thursday despite four goals from Rebecca Graham.

Samantha Gentry and Rebecca Reese had a strong game defensively for the Wildcats (6-7).

NORCROSS — Greater Atlanta Christian fell to Cambridge 16-7 on Thursday.

Catie Wood, Emma Gorman and Angela Tate each scored two goals for the Spartans (4-8).

WOODSTOCK — Ben Briggette scored five goals to lead Peachtree Ridge to a 18-10 win over Etowah on Thursday.

Steven Lee scored four goals and Michael Pinkstaff tallied three times for the Lions (8-2).

NORCROSS — Matt Zimmerman scored two goals, but Wesleyan dropped a 18-3 decision to Northview on Thursday.

Alissa Yang was low medalist for the Wolves, shooting a 40.

LAWRENCEVILLE — Norcross defeated Duluth 155-178 on Thursday in a match played at Northwoods Country Club.

SNELLVILLE — Braden Gibbs fired a 39 to lead Parkview to a 166-183 win over Dacula on Thursday at Country Club of Gwinnett.

STONE MOUNTAIN — Hebron Christian defeated Providence Christian 200-209 in a match played at Smokerise Country Club on Thursday.

Stephen Rogers led the Lions with a 48 while Auston Netcher was the low medalist shooting a 46 for Providence Christian.

Mountain View 2, Meadowcreek 1

NORCROSS — Ashley Lewis scored a goal and assisted on another as Mountain View defeated Meadowcreek 2-1 Thursday.

Ansley Roley also scored for the Bears (6-7, 1-5).

DACULA — Parkview improved to 11-1, 5-1 in Regiona 8-AAAAAA with a 5-0 win over Dacula on Thursday.

Emma Carlson scored two goals to lead the Panthers. Katie Hickman, Grace Nguyen and Christy Albertson also scored for Parkview. Mariah Garner notched the shutout for Parkview in goal.

Duluth 7, Shiloh 0

SNELLVILLE — Duluth improved to 12-1-1 with a 7-0 win over Shiloh.

Sarah Miller led the Wildcats with two goals. Klaudia Cancino and Tiffany Sorenpao also scored for Duluth.

Grayson 10, South Gwinnett 0

LOGANVILLE — Grayson remained undefeated with a 10-0 win over South Gwinnett in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Amanda Baker recorded a hat trick for the Rams (11-0-1, 6-0). Jennifer Westendorf and Brittany Montgomery each scored twice for Grayson.

Dacula 2, Parkview 1

DACULA — Steven Agudelo scored in overtime off a throw in from Lonnie Cottrell to lift Dacula to a 2-1 win over Parkview in overtime.

Brian Mejia scored in regulation for the Falcons (6-7-1, 4-3).

Duluth 4, Shiloh 2

SNELLVILLE — Nikolai Iotov scored four goals to help Duluth defeat Shiloh 4-2 on Thursday.
