DULUTH — To get prepared for its next fundraising season, the United Way of Greater Atlanta is hosting its annual Kick-Off Breakfast for Gwinnett County residents Tuesday morning with former Georgia and NFL kicker Kevin Butler as the keynote speaker.
The event is held at Sonesta Gwinnett Place and was organized by the Gwinnett County Advisory Board, a group of volunteers that live or work in the county and are able to make recommendations at the county level.
“While all four focus areas of homelessness, health, income and education are actively being address in Gwinnett County, for this campaign season, we’ve identified health and income as our two top priorities,” said Dan King, Gwinnett CAB member and long-time supporter of United Way.
Last year, funds raised were used to fund workforce development, asset building and financial literacy programs. Money was also invested to support health education and mobile services to increase the quality of health access to the community.
As a result of the impact of the funds in Gwinnett, 250 adults have completed income programs and have met milestones that have led to financial stability. More than 11,000 residents have established a “medical home,” which helped them to avoid using the emergency room, and more than 3,000 individuals received care for acute health needs or chronic health conditions.
Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m.
