Bluegrass festival planned for Lawrenceville

LAWRENCEVILLE — Tune up your fiddle and find your favorite dancing shoes — a new type of festival is coming to town.

On Oct. 12, an Old Fashioned Picnic and Bluegrass Festival is setting up shop on the lawn of the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse in Lawrenceville.

From noon to 3 p.m., the public is invited to the free inaugural event featuring live music and entertainment in the gazebo, craft vendors and artisans showcasing their talents. People are encouraged to bring their guitars and pick away with other musicians.

Throughout the day there will be several acts taking stage, but the headliners include The Skillet Lickers and Nelson Thomas.

For children, there will be activities to keep them busy as well as dance demonstrations. Plus, the Gwinnett Braves’ mascot Chopper is making an appearance.

This is a pet-friendly event, so bring your canine companions. Swanky Paws Pet Spa is hosting a dog fashion show and creating a cooling station with water and treats.

Worried about human food? You can pack your own picnic or purchase grub from any of the vendors on site. There will be an array of cuisines, including barbecue, pastries and Kona Ice.
