PREP ROUNDUP: North’s Sonnon homers twice in Region 7-AAAAAA win

BLACKSHEAR— Draven Sonnon hit two home runs and drove in five runs to lift North Gwinnett to a 6-2, Region 7-AAAAAA win Thursday over Habersham Central. Kinsley Jennings was the winning pitcher and also contributed two hits for the Bulldogs (19-4, 9-3). Makenna Dowell and Moriah Strother each had two hits and Haley Short had a triple for North Gwinnett.


Marist 8, Wesleyan 2

NORCROSS — Marist defeated Wesleyan 8-2 Thursday night. Dacia Jones took the loss for the Wolves (13-7) striking out five. Riley Henning scored twice and Lillie Baker and Meredith DiStasi each drove in a run for Wesleyan.

Collins Hill 6, Mountain View 1

LAWRENCEVILLE — Jamie Hoover smacked a two run home run to lead Collins Hill to a 6-1 Region 7-AAAAAA win over Mountain View on Thursday. Amanda Chance picked up the win in the circle, striking out five Bears. Chance and Reagan Morgan also contributed two hits to lead the Eagles (18-3, 11-1).

Mill Creek 11, Peachtree Ridge 0

HOSCHTON — Mill Creek shut out Peachtree Ridge 11-0 in a Region 7-AAAAAA contest that lasted five innings Thursday. Kaitlyn Howell improved her record to 4-1 on the season as she allowed only two hits for the Hawks (18-6, 4-1). Kaylyn Anthony had two hits and rove in four runs for Mill Creek. Emily Robertson, Sarah Peery and Christina Evans also had two hits each for Mill Creek.

Duluth 3, Norcross 2

NORCROSS — Duluth defeated Norcross in a Region 7-AAAAAA matchup Thursday. MacKenzie Yarbrough was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats (13-11, 5-7). Haley Wallace had two hits and drove in two runs to pace the offense. Cassie Kooker, Sydnee Worthy and megan Waldheim each had a hit for Duluth.

Buford 10, East Hall 0

GAINESVILLE — Remington Hasty, Drew Puckett and Morgan Walters all smacked home runs in the second inning as Buford improved to 22-1, 11-0 with a 10-0 Region 7-AAA win over East Hall. Bria Bush improved to 8-1 on the season by allowing only one hit and striking out nine. Niki Cook also contributed two hits for the Wolves.

Parkview 8, Brookwood 6

SNELLVILLE — Parkview defeated Brookwood 8-6 in Region 8-AAAAAA action Thursday. Kylie Gabrielson was the winning pitcher for the Panthers (13-14). Sydney Dalton and Jayda Lake paced the offense with two hits each.

Towns County 9, Providence Christian 3

LILBURN — Towns County defeated Providence Christian 9-3 in a Region 8-A contest Thursday. Abigail Roberson led the Storm (10-14, 6-6) with two hits and two RBIs. Katy Barry had two hits and Samantha King had a double for Providence.


Wesleyan sweeps a pair

FAYETTEVILLE — Wesleyan improved to 26-7 on the season by defeating Our Lady of Mercy 25-9, 25-14 and Kings Ridge 25-17, 25-7 Thursday. Lauren Frerking had five aces, 13 kills and 10 digs to lead the Wolves. Emma Bivings had five aces and 13 kills, Ashley Moody had four kills and eight digs and Lauren Alexander had six digs for the Wolves.

GAC splits

NORCROSS — Greater Atlanta Christian split its two matches on senior night. The Spartans defeated Mill Creek 25-22, 26-24 but fell to North Springs 21-25, 25-22, 20-25. Taylor McPherson had 21 kills and 29 digs. Madison Kerr had 47 assists, Emily Becker had 28 digs, Lauren Brown had 12 kills, Jaimisha Patel had 11 kills and Kathryn Wilson had six blocks for GAC (19-16).

Peachtree Ridge sweeps, Collins Hill splits

LILBURN — Peachtree Ridge swept a pair of matches against Collins Hill and Providence Christian Thursday night. The Lions (16-5) defeated host Providence 25-15, 25-8 and then dispatched Collins Hill 25-23, 25-17. Cosette Morche had 10 kills and Brittney Thomas had 20 assists for Peachtree Ridge. Collins Hill rebounded from its opening loss to defeat the host Storm, 25-20 and 25-12. Molly Fine had 11 digs, Jennifer Ahlswede had 26 assists and Courtney Oster contributed 13 kills and 11 digs for the Eagles.

Norcross takes two

ALPHARETTA — Norcorss defeated Cherokee 25-13, 25-14 and host Alpharetta 25-11, 25-19 Thursday night. Kolby Meeks had 24 kills and 15 digs for the Blue Devils (23-12). Iana Dingle had 13 digs, Resa Knott had nine kills and MaKenzie White contributed six kills and five blocks for Norcross.

Buford sweeps

SNELLVILLE — Buford defeated South Gwinnett 25-10, 25-7 and Meadowcreek 25-11, 25-14 Thursday. Maggie Roper led the Wolves (25-9) with 20 kills and 10 digs. Gabby Curry had seven kills, Allison Frazier had five kills, Morgan Mitchell had 17 assists and Mikhayla Reigel had 18 digs for Buford.

Hebron wins two, Shiloh one

DACULA — Hebron Christian Academy defeated Shiloh and Berkmar on Thursday. The Lions (33-8) defeated the Generals 25-8, 25-2 and the Patriots 25-8, 25-15. Eden Murray had 21 kills, Alli Johnson had 10 kills and Anna Katherine Wilson had 40 assists for Hebron. Shiloh rebounded to defeat Berkmar 25-22, 17-25, 25-23. Briana Stith had 28 digs, Kinasha Bell had five blocks, Angelique Little had 13 digs and Bebe McEwen-Lopez had 12 digs to lead the Generals.

Parkview loses a pair

JOHNS CREEK — Parkview lost a pair of matches Thursday. The Panthers dropped a 25-9, 25-6 decision to host Johns Creek and then fell in three sets, 16-25, 25-20 and 13-25 to Dunwoody.
