BUFORD — A Buford teen was arrested on five separate felony charges Monday, four days after allegedly firing more than a dozen shots into a group of young men playing basketball.

Carrington Frye, 17, was booked into the Gwinnett County jail Monday and formally charged with five counts of aggravated assault. The arrest followed a shooting incident at the Reserve at Ivy Creek apartments, located off Mall of Georgia Boulevard.

According to a Gwinnett County police incident report, five men ages 19 to 22 were playing basketball Thursday evening at that apartment complex when a Volvo occupied by “four or five males” pulled up. The soon-to-be victims were reportedly able to identify at least three of the people in the car.

“(One victim) said Carrington Frye was in the rear passenger side seat and he pointed a long black gun out of the window,” police said. “Frye began shooting (at the victims). He said they all ran away and the vehicle left the scene.”

The victims estimated that 15 or 20 gunshots were fired from the vehicle — somehow, only one of them was shot. That wound was in the leg, according to police.

“None of the witnesses could explain why the suspect would want to shoot at them,” the incident report said.

Jail records show Frye is being held without bond. As of Tuesday, no charges were pending against the other men allegedly in the car during the shooting, police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said.
