PREP ROUNDUP: Wesleyan’s Dacia Jones sets record for most wins in school history

NORCROSS — Dacia Jones landed in the Wesleyan history books on Tuesday night as the senior logged the 43rd win of her prep career to become the winningest pitcher in Wesleyan history.

Jones’ 43rd win came at the expense of Lovett in a 10-2 victory. Jones went six innings on the night, giving up two runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

Jones also had a solid night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs as the Wolves pounded out 17 hits. Riley Henning added to the attack, going 4-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs.

Other offensive standouts were Meredith DiStasi (3-for-3, two RBIs), Landyn Duley (3-for-4, two RBIs, run) and Jenna Bartlett (RBI to end game).

The win bumped Wesleyan’s record to 13-6 overall and 6-0 in Region 6-AA.

SOFTBALL

Archer 14, Loganville 1

LOGANVILLE — Jacqui Switzer of Archer went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs on Tuesday night in helping the Tigers to a 14-1 rout of Loganville in four innings in a non-region game.

Alesha Mann also had a big day for Archer, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Brittany Maresette had two hits and scored twice. J.J. Simao also went 2-for-3 with two runs and Kristin Hawkins finished 2-for-2 with a two-run homer.

Archer improved to 17-7 overall while staying at 5-1 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Dacula 3, South 2

DACULA — Keeli Waugh of Dacula pitched seven innings with eight strikeouts on Tuesday night in helping the Falcons hold off South Gwinnett 3-2 for a Region 8-AAAAAA win.

Makenzie Vanderhorst led the offense for Dacula (17-3, 4-1) by going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Kendra Pfister went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Sabrina Sieber added to the offense with two hits, including a triple and a run, while Waugh added a hit a and scored.

Mill Creek 8,

Mountain View 1

HOSCHTON — Kaylyn Anthony and Emily Robertson each had two hits and two RBIs on Tuesday night in helping Mill Creek to an 8-1 win over Mountain View in Region 7-AAAAAA play.

Hannah Adams also finished 3-for-4 with two runs for the Hawks (17-6, 8-3), while Kenzer Fagioli went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Emily Lawrence also finished 2-for-3.

Skylar Hayward was the winning pitcher, going seven innings with three hits, six strikeouts and one walk.

North 8, Duluth 0

DULUTH — North Gwinnett improved to 18-4 overall and 8-3 in Region 7-AAAAAA on Tuesday night with an 8-0 shutout at Duluth.

Hannah Harrison picked up the win, going six innings with two hits and 12 strikeouts.

Chase Battle had the big hit for North with a three-run homer, while Moriah Strother added two hits with a home run and two RBIs. Kinsley Jennings also homered, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Draven Sonnon and Makenna Dowell each went 2-for-4 with Sonnon recording a double.

Collins Hill 14,

Peachtree Ridge 0

SUWANEE — Collins Hill starter Amanda Chance recorded a no-hitter on Tuesday night as the Eagles blanked Peachtree Ridge 14-0 in five innings in a Region 7-AAAAAA game. Chance went all five innings, striking out five and walking none.

Aeshia Miles led the offense for Collins Hill, going 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, while Brea Dickey added three hits with a triple, RBI and two runs. Calli Starr also helped, going 2-for-4 and driving in two.

Prince Avenue 4,

Providence 1

LILBURN — Providence led 1-0 after five innings but couldn’t hold on as Prince Avenue bounced back for a 4-1 win over the Storm in a Region 8-A game on Tuesday afternoon.

Abigail Roberson had a hit and an RBI for the Storm (10-13, 6-5) with Katy Barry adding another hit.

Buford 17, Banks Co. 9

BUFORD — Buford and Banks County combined for 24 hits on Tuesday night as the Wolves outlasted the Leopards 17-9 in five innings for a Region 7-AAA victory.

Buford (21-1, 10-0) jumped on top with nine runs in the bottom of the first, sparked by a two-run homer from Remington Hasty, but Banks County battled back in the top of the third with eight runs. Buford pulled away in the bottom half by plating seven more runs.

Hasty finished 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs, while Drew Puckett went 1-for-2 with a grand slam and two runs. Alexus Murray finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs with Niki Cook going 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs, RBI and stolen base.

Emily Crocker (6-0) went three innigs in recording the win, giving up eight unearned runs on six hits, two walks and one strikeout. Peyton Wolfe pitched the final two innings, surrendering one earned run on four hits and two walks.

VOLLEYBALL

Norcross sweeps

Meadowcreek

NORCROSS — Norcross stayed unbeaten in Area 8-AAAAAA with a sweep of Meadowcreek on Tuesday night, taking down the Mustangs in three games 25-9, 25-7, 25-17.

Kolby Meeks led Norcross (21-12, 7-0) in kills with 13, while Rachel Luttrell added five kills along with four digs. Lana Dingle also helped with 10 digs and four aces, while Sammie Baker paced the offense with 17 assists.

Druid Hills tops Shiloh

ATLANTA — Shiloh traveled to Druid Hills on Tuesday and fell three games to one (25-16, 25-12, 22-25, 25-17) in an Area 8-AAAAAA match.

Leaders for Shiloh were Briana Stith (16 digs, three kills, two aces), Kinsasha Bell (nine digs, six blocks), Angelique Little (seven blocks, four kills) and Bebe McEwen-Lopez (six blocks, four aces, three assists).

Shiloh fell to 2-5 in area play.

Brookwood still

perfect in area

LILBURN — Brookwood recorded two Area 7-AAAAAA wins on Tuesday night over Berkmar 25-11, 25-15 and Central Gwinnett 25-9, 25-19 to run its area record to 5-0.

Top performers for Brookwood were Gianna Zitello with 35 assists and five aces, Maryka Zee with 14 kills, Amelia Collins with 13 aces and nine kills and Kierra Shipman with 10 kills.

Central also faced Berkmar and fell in three games 17-25, 25-22, 25-9. Leaders for Central (1-3 in area) were Chantil Vance with 11 digs, Teryn Simmons with eight kills and an ace, Jennifer Colclough with three digs and two aces, Courtnee Boyd with two kills and J’Lynn Chester with 10 assists and three aces.

Collins Hill defeats

Mountain View

SUWANEE — Collins Hill lost its first game 25-17 in its match with Mountain View, but rallied to take the last two 25-15, 25-16 to top the Bears in Area 6-AAAAAA action on Tuesday night.

The Eagles (17-15, 3-3) also faced host Peachtree Ridge and fell in two tight games 25-22, 26-24. Leaders for Collins Hill were Molly Fine with 13 digs, Sabrina Saavedra with 14 digs, Jennifer Ahlswede with 41 assists and Courtney Oster with 18 kills and 14 digs.

North gets two area wins

SUWANEE — North Gwinnett improved to 30-3 overall and 6-0 in Area 6-AAAAAA on Tuesday night with wins over Duluth 25-13, 25-11 and Mill Creek 25-19, 16-25, 25-17.

Top hitters for the Bulldogs were Natalie Stout with 20 kills and Alyssa Munlyn and Carson Nevels with 14 each, while McKenzie Major tallied 37 assists.

Mill Creek (23-12) also picked up an area win with a 25-17, 25-16 sweep of Habersham Central. Cayla Graham led the Hawks by hitting .286 and passing 2.9 against North and hitting .455 and passing 2.8 in the Habersham match, while Carley Eiken tallied 34 assists.

Parkview gets past Archer

LILBURN — Parkview scored a win in Area 7-AAAAAA on Tuesday night with a three-game sweep of Archer 25-23, 25-19, 26-24.

Cori Harber led the Panthers (13-15, 4-1) with 17 assists, five aces, five kills and four digs. Rachel Rust added eight kills and a pair of digs, while Maddie Dean chipped in with six assists.

Archer (11-20, 2-2) was led by Tiffany Cash with 16 assists and four kills, Lanisha Thomas with nine kills and two aces, Danae Jones with four kills and Zanayah Richardson with three kills.

Lanier sweeps Eastside

and Johnson

SUGAR HILL — Lanier upped its record to 16-11 overall and 6-1 in Area 8-AAAA on Tuesday night with sweeps of Eastside 25-20, 25-10 and Johnson 25-20, 25-23.

Tori Wyant finished with 34 assists to lead Lanier, while Morgan O’Neal had eight kills and three service points. Jaylen Cruz added six service points and four kills, while her sister Jordyn Cruz had 10 service points and four kills.

Buford splits in area play

ROSWELL — Buford split a pair of Area 5-AAA matches on Tuesday night, falling in two games to Blessed Trinity 25-7, 25-21 but rallying to sweep Cross Keys 25-2, 25-11.

Myra Sanchez had 12 assists, six aces and four kills in the win over Cross Keys, while McKenna Hicks followed with five kills and an ace. Amalie Gee also helped with six aces.

Buford’s record moved to 23-9 overall and 4-2 in the area.

Wesleyan wins three

NORCROSS — Wesleyan upped its record to 24-8 overall and 6-0 in Area 6-AA with three wins on Tuesday night, sweeping Greater Atlanta Christian 25-19, 25-20, Rabun County 25-8, 25-6 and Jefferson 25-10, 25-16.

Top hitter for the Wolves was Lauren Frerking with 31 kills, while Emma Bivings recorded 18 and Katie Van Laeke finished with 15.

Kendra Koetter guided the offense with 66 assists, while Hannah Hoskin recorded 26 digs to lead the defense.

GAC (18-15, 4-2) shook off the loss to Wesleyan by sweeping Jefferson 25-16, 25-23 and Rabun County 25-15, 25-13,

Madison Kerr led GAC with 57 assists, while Tayler McPherson had 22 kills. Lauren Brown followed with 14 kills, with Emily Becker recording 39 digs and Michaela Bailey serving five aces.

Hebron stays atop Area 6-A

MONROE — Hebron kept its unbeaten record in Area 6-A intact on Tuesday night with wins over North Oconee 25-20, 25-15 and George Walton Academy 25-15, 25-11.

Eden Murray tallied 22 kills on the night for Hebron (31-6, 7-0) with Anna Katherine Wilson dishing out 42 assists.
