LAWRENCEVILLE — The 63-year-old man reported missing after he wandered from a Lawrenceville care home Thursday night has been found, his sister said. Remarkably, he’s expected to be OK.
Horace Watson Jr. left his assisted living home on Georgian Hills Drive at about 6 p.m. Thursday, leaving on foot and without a cellphone, money or access to a vehicle. Suffering from mild dementia and diabetes, Gwinnett County police believed Watson may have been attempting to reach family in Loganville but had not been able to find him.
On Monday night, “somebody in the community” spotted him, Watson’s sister told the Daily Post.
“It was just the grace of God that he’s still alive,” Jane Williams said.
Williams said she wasn’t sure of the exact spot where her brother was located, but thought that it was in reasonably close proximity to his point of departure. She said a homeowner found Watson and he was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center.
Watson was in rough shape but is expected to be OK.
“He was in really bad condition,” Williams said. “He hadn’t eaten or drank anything in five days, and had no medication.”
It’s still unclear why Watson wandered from his residence.
