Internet search engines are useful when looking for things to do if you know what you want to do and don’t care about price. However Wayne Rowan, founder of www.gopherlittle.com, is “passionate about saving money.”
Rowan’s site is an online event search engine organized by location, date and cost, not exceeding $30. He started it in December and his site helped promote local houses that were heavily decorated.
Though he has not been able to quite his day job yet, he says that he hasn’t met many people who don’t think it’s a good idea.
“It helps moms a lot and everybody likes to be on a budget.” Rowan said. “There’s a wide variety of events from Bingo nights to Church concerts, you can put an entire high school calendar on there free of charge.”
Those who want to advertise have to pay a fee but other events are free to post. Spreading the word about the site has been a struggle but he promotes it by traveling to the events that have been posted and handing out hats and shirts.
“I enjoy meeting people at the events we go to.” Rowan said. He plans on going national eventually with the helps of talk shows, media, blogging and of course, Facebook.
