Brown, Wilson commit to Mizzou football

The University of Missouri picked up a pair of commitments from two of Gwinnett County’s No. 1 ranked football teams on Tuesday.

North Gwinnett receiver Nate Brown committed to the Tigers along with Buford safety Thomas Wilson. North Gwinnett is ranked No. 1 in Class AAAAAA and Buford is the defending state champions and ranked No. 1 in Class AAA.

Missouri moved from the Big 12 conference to the SEC last year and has never signed a football player from Gwinnett County.

“We had a conversation about it Sunday,” Brown said of the duo committing to Missouri. “He asked me how it was. I’m not sure if that swayed his decision because it was one of his top schools. It’s a plus having (Thomas) up there.”

The 6-foot-2, 197 Brown is the No. 6 ranked receiver in Georgia, according to ESPN.com. He has a dozen scholarship offers, including Georgia Tech, Louisville and Vanderbilt, who was his other finalist.

“It was down to Vanderbilt and Missouri for about a month,” Brown said. “I took a visit two weeks ago. It was really close. I think I can be productive at both schools. Missouri has a good business program and that’s what I want to study. Also, just the way they run the offense. It’s always good when they throw the ball more than they run.”

Brown has 17 catches for 279 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Wilson is the No. 97 overall rated recruit in Georgia. He has more than a dozen offers, including West Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and Duke.

Wilson has more than 100 yards rushing and four touchdowns this season at running back. He has 10 tackles on defense.

Wilson is the second Buford player to make a college commitment this week. Linebacker Deion King committed to the Ivy League’s Cornell University. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound King has 20 tackles this season.
