LAWRENCEVILLE – Mill Creek scored early and often Friday night, taking advantage of mistakes by rival Mountain View in a 42-3 victory.

Hawk linebacker Andrew Sciara took advantage of a pair of Mountain View mistakes, returning two fumbles for touchdowns.

“I just happened to be in the right place at the right time,” Sciara said.

The Mill Creek defense starting the scoring as it took advantage of a bad snap by the Bears (0-3, 0-1) when Sciara scooped up a fumble on the Mountain View 5-yard line and ran in for the game’s first touchdown.

The Hawks’ special teams wasted no time setting up another quick scoring drive as Chase Turner recovered the ensuing kickoff on the Mountain View 18. DeVozea Felton scored on a 5-yard run to give the Hawks a 14-0 lead at the 10:15 mark of the first quarter.

Mill Creek (3-0, 1-0) continued the first-quarter scoring explosion as quarterback Daniel David connected with Joseph Hull on a 27-yard scoring strike. Then Sciara recovered yet another fumble, this time on the Mountain View 18 and returned it for a score with 55 seconds left in the first quarter.

Mill Creek struck again in the second quarter as Carter Governale broke loose on a 16-yard TD run.

“We never really got in rhythm offensively but our defense was taking advantage of turnovers and converting them to scores,” Mill Creek head coach Shannon Jarvis said. “In our region, you have to play great defense and I feel that we did that tonight.”

Johnathan Hawkins opened the second-half scoring for the Hawks with a nifty, 24-yard TD run.

Mountain View put together a 12-play scoring drive in the fourth quarter to get on the board as Jeff Hollingsworth connected on a 25-yard field goal.

“We have Peachtree Ridge at home next week and it will be a great matchup of two really good teams,” Jarvis said. “I know they will be ready to play and we will as well.”

Johnathan Hawkins led Mill Creek with 51 yards rushing on only seven carries. Daniel David was 4 of 8 passing for 66 yards for the Hawks.
