PREP ROUNDUP: North sweeps doubleheader with Norcross

SUWANEE — North Gwinnett swept a Region 7-AAAAAA doubleheader versus Norcross Thursday night. The Bulldogs won the opener 14-0 in four innings and the nightcap 8-0 in five frames. A previous rainout necessitated the double dip in region play.

Hanna Harrison pitched the operner for North and no-hit the Blue Devils striking out six in the process. Chase Battle and Kinsley Jennings homered for the Bulldogs, who scored all 14 runs in the first inning.

In the second game, Jennings pitched all five innings and allowed only one hit to help the Bulldogs to improve to 12-2, 6-2. Battle had three RBIs, Emily Dennis had two and Kaitlan Andrews contributed a key hit for North.


Archer 13, Shiloh 1

SNELLVILLE – Kory Best improved to 7-3 on the season as she pitched Archer to a 13-1, four inning victory over Shiloh on Thursday. Best scattered four hits for the Tigers (11-6, 4-1).

Jenna Graham hit a three-run home run for Archer. Jacqui Switzer had two hits and Abby Lyall and Kristin Hawkins drove in two and three runs, respectively.

Berkmar 9, Meadowcreek 6

NORCROSS – Jasmine White pitched a complete game to help Berkmar to a 9-6 Region 8-AAAAAA win over Meadowcreek on Thursday. White struck out nine Mustangs as the Patriots improved to 2-4 in the Region.

Meagan Naraine and Alleeyah Casper each had two hits for Berkmar. Ilona Scott and Asia Brown turned in strong defensive efforts for the Patriots.

Mountain View 11,

Peachtree Ridge 6

LAWRENCEVILLE – The hits came early and often as Mountain View defeated Peachtree Ridge 11-6 in a Region 7-AAAAAA contest Thursday.

Meghan Tonneson had three RBIs to lead the Bears (8-13, 2-5). Courtney Roley had four hits and Courtney Kichefski had three for Mountain View. Shae Balzer was the winning pitcher.

The Lions (7-10, 3-5) were led by Wynter Webb who had three hits and three RBI’s. Maiah Johnson and Brandi Mason each had two hits for Peachtree Ridge.

Grayson 8, Lanier 2

BUFORD – Grayson defeated Lanier 8-2 Thursday night. Peyton Glover picked up the win in the circle for the Rams (8-8) and she helped her own cause by hitting a home run.

Stephanie Snyder had four hits while teammates Anna Newell and Sierra Smith each had two for Grayson.

Habersham 12, Duluth 0

BLACKSHEAR – Habersham Central defeated Duluth 10-2 in Region 7-AAAAAA Thursday. The Wildcats fell to 8-6 on the season and 3-4 in the Region.

Lindsey McKinney, Megan Waldheim and Toni Perrucci each had a hit for the Wildcats.

Wesleyan 16, Lovett 2

ATLANTA – Wesleyan racked up 16 hits en route to a 16-2 Region 6-AA win Thursday. Dacia Jones pitched four innings to get the win and allowed only three hits.

Riley Henning drove in three runs for the Wolves (8-5, 3-0). Lillie Baker, Mieredith Distasi, Emily Farrow and Gabby Hernandez each had two hits as Wesleyan scored seven runs with two outs in the third inning.

Buford 11, West Hall 0

OAKWOOD – Sophomores Kennedy Kotula and Peyton Wolfe combined in the circle to lead Buford to a 11-0 Region 7-AAA win Thursday. Kotula picked up her first varsity win by pitching three innings and striking out four. Wolfe pitched the final two frames for Buford.

Jordan Deep and Morgan Walters each homered for Buford (14-1, 7-0). Niki Cook drove in two runs and Baylee Sexton had a key double for the Wolves.

Parkview 9, South Gwinnett 1

LILBURN – Parkview improved to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in Region 8-AAAAAA with a 9-1 win over South Gwinnett. Sammi Rosa was the winning pitcher for the Panthers.

Jessica Moody and Autumn Sizemore each had two hits for Parkview. Lexi Walker and Jada Lake each drove in a run for the Panthers.


Wesleyan sweeps at home

NORCROSS – Wesleyan defeated Marist and Dunwoody in volleyball action Thursday. The Wolves downed Marist 25-23, 15-25 and 25-20. They then dispatched Dunwoody in two sets, 25-12, 25-22.

Emma Bivings had nine aces, 13 kills and 12 digs to lead Wesleyan. Lauren Frerking chipped in with 12 digs, 13 kills and 14 digs while Katie Van Laeke had nine kills and Kendra Koetter had six kills, 39 assists and 12 digs for the Wolves.

GAC sweeps

NORCROSS – Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Grayson 25-8, 25-17 and Lakeside 20-25, 25-17 and 25-10 Thursday night. The wins improved the Spartans record to 8-12 on the season.

Tayler McPherson and Lauren Brown each recorded 14 kills for GAC. Jaimisha Patel had 10 aces, Emily Becker had 22 digs and Madison Kerr had 39 assists on the night.

Hiner serves up

Brookwood split

BUFORD – Senior Captain Felicia Hiner came off the bench with her team trailing 23-20 and converted on five consecutive serves in the third and final set to help Brookwood defeat Hebron Christian Academy 25-22, 18-25 and 25-23. The Broncos (10-13) fell in the nightcap to Buford 25-17, 25-15.

The host Wolves (15-8) then went on to defeat Hebron 25-20, 25-23 to sweep its matches on the night. Maggie Roper had 16 kills, 13 digs and nine aces to lead Buford. Gabby Curry added 13 kills and Morgan Mitchell had 31 assists and 11 digs for the Wolves.

North Gwinnett

wins four matches

SUWANEE – North Gwinnett won its first four matches of the Collins Hill Invitational Thursday night. North defeated North Forsyth 25-13, 25-10 and West Forsyth 25-8, 25-23. The Bulldogs then dispatched Shiloh 25-9, 25-7 before beating Region foe Duluth 25-23, 25-12. The wins improved the North record to 22-3 on the season.

Mountain View wins four

LAWRENCEVILLE – Mountain View (23-7) defeated all four of its opponents to advance to the gold tournament of the Collins Hill Classic on Saturday.

The Bears defeated North Hall 25-18, 25-14 and Chamblee 25-7, 25-14. Mountain View then dispatched Gwinnett County foes Dacula 25-16, 25-13 and Central Gwinnett 25-9, 25-16.

Collins Hill splits

SUWANEE – Collins Hill splits its matches in the Collins Hill Invitational. The Eagles (10-10) defeated Tucker 22-25, 25-18, 15-1 but fell to Rockdale County 25-22, 25-14.

Zuri Fenderson and Courtney Oster each had 12 kills for Collins Hill. Jennifer Ahlswede had 42 assists.

Shiloh defeats Duluth

SUWANEE – Shiloh opened its appearance at the Collins Hill Classic with a win over Duluth 25-18, 25-22. The Generals then fell to North Gwinnett, West Forsyth and North Forsyth. Shiloh continues play Saturday in the tournament.

Parkview defeats Loganville

SUWANEE – Parkview fell in three sets in both of its opening matches of the Collins Hill Classic before rebounding to defeat Loganville Thursday.

The Panthers lost to Rockdale County and Tucker, losing 15-4 and 15-11 in the third set of each match. Parkview defeated the Red Devils 25-23, 25-23.

Nia Mitchell had 40 digs and Cori Harber had 15 aces, 40 assists and 22 digs for the Panthers (8-13).

Lanier splits

BOGART – Lanier defeated Jackson County, but fell to undefeated North Oconee on Thursday. The Longhorns (8-6) defeated Jackson by a score of 23-25, 25-22 and 25-20. Lanier dropped the nightcap to the 20-0 hosts, 25-7 and 25-15.

Tori Wyant had 14 assists to lead Lanier and Miranda Hancock had nine kills.

Archer splits

LAWRENCEVILLE – Archer fell to South Gwinnett, but rebounded to defeat George Walton Academy Thursday night. The Tigers fell to the Comets 25-19, 26-24, but took the second match 19-25, 25-20 and 25-15.

Danae Jones had 15 and Lanisha Thomas had 13 kills for Archer. Tiffany Cash chipped in 34 assists and Grace Henson had 14 digs for the Tigers.

Mill Creek splits

HOSCHTON – Mill Creek defeated Norcross but fell to South Forsyth Thursday. The Hawks defeated the Blue Devils 25-17, 26-24 but fell to South Forsyth 25-16, 25-18.

Cayla Graham had 14 kills and 22 digs while Carly Eiken had 26 assists to lead Mill Creek.
