PREP ROUNDUP: Dacula's Pfister shuts out Grayson 1-0

LOGANVILLE — Dacula scored one run in the top of the first and made it stand as the Falcons held on for a 1-0 shutout at Grayson on Tuesday night for a Region 8-AAAAAA win.

Kendra Pfister was the winning pitcher, delivering a complete game, recording the shutout by giving up four hits and striking out four.

Makenzie Vanderhorst had the RBI in the top of the first for Dacula (8-1, 3-0), driving in Kristan Lizardi, who finished 1-for-4. Sabrina Sieber also went 2-for-3 for the Falcons.

SOFTBALL

Brookwood 6, Shiloh 3

SNELLVILLE — Brookwood evened its overall record at 9-9 and upped its Region 8-AAAAAA mark to 4-1 with a 6-3 win at home over Shiloh on Tuesday night.

Ansley Jones was the winning pitcher and also helped at the plate, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks.

Taiylor Rinehart finished 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run for Brookwood, while Kiah Sewell and Chelsea DeBaun each had a hit and scored.

Shiloh (9-10, 0-4) was led by Asha Watson, who had two hits and an RBI, while Courtni Jones had a hit and drove in a run. Areca Bender added a double, while the loss went to Adia Randall, who went six innings with six unearned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

Peachtree Ridge 4, Norcross 3

SUWANEE — Peachtree Ridge pushed across one run in the bottom of the seventh to nip Norcross 4-3 on Tuesday night in a Region 7-AAAAAA battle.

Maiah Johnson led off the bottom of the seventh for the Lions (7-9, 3-4) with a double and scored the winning run off a double from Brandi Mason.

Mason finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Louise Yu had an RBI double. Andie McGregor (2-for-3), NaCayia Madison (triple, run) and Savanna Turvy (hit, RBI) all helped on offense, while Laura Purcell (seven innings, seven hits, no earned runs) was the winning pitcher.

Norcross (6-10, 0-6) was led by Kelly Schmidt, who went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while Jacqueline O’Reilly added a hit and an RBI. Ally Shores also had a hit and scored, while Jessee Hoge doubled.

Vanessa Bradford pitched a complete game for Norcross in taking the loss, giving up two earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.

Mill Creek 15, Duluth 0

HOSCHTON — Mill Creek pounded out 15 hits as the Hawks ran away with a 15-0 win over Duluth on Tuesday night in a Region 7-AAAAAA game.

Morgan Bell led the attack, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs, while Kenzer Fagioli and Emilie Lawrence each had two hits and two RBIs.

The Hawks (11-2, 6-1) also received a 2-for-3 day with two runs from Hannah Adams, while Kaylyn Anthony finished 2-for-2 with two runs and a stolen base.

Heather Felt (5-1) was the winning pitcher, going three innings with one hit and one walk with six strikeouts.

North 6, Mountain View 0

LAWRENCEVILLE — Kinsley Jennings (5-1) of North Gwinnett recorded a complete-game shutout on Tuesday night, going seven innings with three hits and four strikeouts as North blanked Mountain View 6-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Moriah Strother led the offense for North, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, while Draven Sonnon finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.

Makenna Dowell also had a hit and an RBI, while Lindsey Cobb went 2-for-2 with a walk. Dowell and Cobb also paired up in the infield to turn two 4-6-3 double plays.

Collins Hill 12, Habersham Central 0

SUWANEE — Collins Hill’s offense came to life on Tuesday night as the Eagles (11-2, 6-1) blasted their way to a 12-0 win in four innings over Habersham Central in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Tyra Holiday led the way with two hits and five RBIs, while Amanda Chance followed with three RBIs. Aeshia Miles, Laine Simmons and Brea Dickey each had two hits with an RBI, while Reagan Morgan finished 2-for-3.

Chance also notched the win, pitching four innings with four strikeouts and one hit.

Archer 13, Parkview 1

LAWRENCEVILLE — Archer needed just four innings to post a 13-1 defeat over Parkview on Tuesday night in a Region 8-AAAAAA game.

Kory Best (6-3) picked up the win, going four innings with one run on two hits, while Abby Lyall led the offense with a double and two RBIs. Jacqui Switzer and Brittany Marresette each went 1-for-2 with two steals and three runs. Katie Etheridge also went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Emily Osmer added a hit with a run and an RBI.

Lanier 7, Eastside 6

SUGAR HILL — Hannah Coursey of Lanier went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and five RBIs on Tuesday night as the Longhorns nipped Eastside 7-6 for a Region 8-AAAA win.

Holland Coursey also went 2-for-2 with two runs, while Lauren Pettit had a hit and scored twice. Isabelle Petty also finished 2-for-3.

Kaylee Ramos was the winning pitcher with Cameron Dillard picking up the save.

Buford 11, North Hall 0

BUFORD — Emily Crocker of Buford pitched a no-hitter on Tuesday night as the Wolves blanked North Hall 11-0 in five innings. Crocker (3-0) finished with four strikeouts and one walk.

On offense, Buford (13-1, 6-0) was led by Remington Hasty, who went 1-for-3 with a double, run and three RBIs. Noah Sudderth added a two-run homer, while Tessa Daniels doubled and drove in two.

Morgan Walters added to the offense with a 2-for-3 night with two doubles and two runs.

Commerce 5, Hebron 1

DACULA — Commerce plated four runs in the top of the eighth to come away with a 5-1 win at Hebron on Tuesday night.

The two teams each scored one unearned run in regulation before the Tigers pulled away in the eighth.

Emily Helton, Hannah Atkinson, Athena Hawkins and Brooke McCollum each went 1-for-3 for Hebron, while Emily Chiachurria pitched all eight innings for the Lions.

Parkview wins two of three, Brookwood sweeps

DACULA — Parkview won two matches on Tuesday night, including on in Area 7-AAAAAA play, to improve its record to 7-11 overall and 1-1 in area play.

Parkview beat George Walton Academy 25-21, 12-25, 25-15 and Dacula 25-16, 25-16, but fell to Brookwood in two games 25-21, 25-19.

Top performers for Parkview were Rachel Rust with 17 digs, 14 kills and six aces, Cori Harber with 40 assists, 14 digs, nine aces and seven kills and Vickie Harris with 12 kills and seven digs.

Brookwood posted a perfect night by adding two more wins, downing Dacula 25-12, 25-21 and George Walton Academy 25-16, 25-19.

Leading the Broncos (9-12, 2-0) were Amelia Collins with 16 kills and two blocks, Kierra Shipman with 17 kills and two blocks, Blair Bolton with 13 kills and Jordan Shipman with 35 assists and four blocks.

Dacula, which fell to 0-2 in the area, also dropped its match to George Walton Academy 25-16, 25-21. Caroline Hinton paced Dacula with 26 assists.

Archer opens area play with two wins

LOGANVILLE — Archer opened its Area 7-AAAAAA schedule with two wins on Tuesday night, beating Grayson 25-22, 25-20 and Berkmar 25-20, 25-18.

Leading the way for Archer (6-13, 2-0) was Zanayah Richardson with five kills and five aces, Tiffany Cash with 23 assists, five aces and two kills, Danae Jones with 11 kills, two aces and two assists, Lanisha Thomas with five kills and three blocks and Akua Obeng/Akrofi with eight kills.

Norcross logs two sweeps

NORCROSS — Norcross upped its record to 14-8 overall and 4-0 in Area 8-AAAAAA on Tuesday night with sweeps of Newton 25-7, 25-8 and Alcovy 25-7, 25-7.

Leaders for Norcross were Kolby Meeks with 18 kills, McKenzie White with eight kills and seven blocks, Rachel Luttrell with nine kills and Angel Acosta with 29 assists and seven aces.

Mountain View tops Duluth and Mill Creek

DULUTH — Kayla Whitner recorded 16 kills and Jordan Screen added 15 more to lead Mountain View (19-7, 2-0) to a pair of wins on Tuesday night in Area 6-AAAAAA action.

Mountain View opened its night with a 25-14, 25-16 sweep of Duluth and capped it off with a win in three games over rival Mill Creek 25-17, 22-25, 25-22.

Peachtree Ridge (4-8, 1-1) also faced Duluth and Mill Creek and recorded a split by sweeping Duluth 25-20, 25-9 but falling to Mill Creek in two games 27-25, 25-17.

North wins two on road

MOUNT AIRY — North Gwinnett opened its Area 6-AAAAAA play on Tuesday with a pair of wins, defeating Collins Hill 25-11, 25-22 and host Habersham Central 25-14, 25-14.

Leading North (20-3, 2-0) were Alyssa Munlyn with 16 kills and four blocks, Carson Nevels with 11 kills and four aces, Heather Shelton with nine kills and four aces and Natalie Stout with 11 kills.

Collins Hill (9-9, 0-2) also faced Habersham and fell in three games 25-22, 22-25, 25-13. Top players on the night for the Eagles were Sabrina Saavedra with 27 kills, Jennifer Ahlswede with 31 assists and 10 digs and Courtney Oster with 12 kills, 10 digs and five aces.

Central falls to Apalachee and Loganville

WINDER — Central Gwinnett lost a pair of non-area matches on Tuesday night, falling to Loganville 25-18, 25-17 and host Apalachee 25-11, 25-21.

The losses dropped Central to 0-14.

Lanier splits on road

GAINESVILLE — Lanier split a pair of Area 8-AAAA matches on Tuesday night, defeating Lumpkin County 25-15, 25-23 but falling to host Chestatee 25-15, 25-17.

Tori Wyant led the Longhorns (7-5, 2-1) with 17 assists, while Jessica Helmink finished with 10 service points and five kills. Victoria Inman chipped in with four kills.

Wesleyan wins three

JEFFERSON — Wesleyan posted three wins in Area 6-AA play on Tuesday night, topping Jefferson 25-13, 25-15, Greater Atlanta Christian 25-17, 20-25, 25-22 and Rabun County 25-11, 25-17.

Top hitter for Wesleyan (15-7, 3-0) was Lauren Frerking with 31 kills. Emma Bivings added 14 kills, while Maddie Jones delivered five kills. Kristen Pack also helped with 15 digs and nine aces.
