Commuters saw an all-time high Tuesday for a toll lane allowing a faster trip downtown.

The high-occupancy toll lane along Interstate 85 reached a record $8 for people who traveled the entire 16 miles from Old Peachtree Road to Chamblee-Tucker Road.

With rates increasing along with traffic, the 50 cents per mile rate is more than half of the 90 cents per mile maximum set when the HOT lanes opened in October of 2011.

“The I-85 Express Lanes system is designed to manage demand for the lanes through pricing to keep traffic free-flowing,” State Road and Tollway Authority Malika Wilkins said of the record toll, which was charged from 6:59 a.m. to 7:52 a.m.
