PREP ROUNDUP: Zabow's walk-off double helps Mill Creek rally past Archer 4-3

HOSCHTON — Carly Zabow’s walk-off, pinch-hit RBI double in the bottom of the seventh capped a two-run rally that lifted Mill Creek to a 4-3 win over defending state champion Archer in a battle of Class AAAAAA powerhouses Monday at Mill Creek.

Heather Felt (4-1) got the win with 1 1/3 perfect innings out of the bullpen with a strikeout, and also went 2-for-3 with a double at the plate in a game that was made up from the rained out Hawk/Bulldog Classic last month.

Mill Creek (10-2) also got help from Sara Peery, who was 2-for-4 with a double, Morgan Bell (2-for-3) and Kaylyn Anthony (3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs).

Brittany Maresette (1-for-4, RBI) and Sydney Willhite (1-for-3, 2B, RBI) led the way for the Tigers (9-5).

SOFTBALL

Winder-Barrow 6, Norcross 3, 8 innings

NORCROSS — Norcross committed five errors in the field and fell to visiting Winder-Barrow 6-3 in eight innings on Monday.

Vanessa Bradford took the loss despite giving up just four hits and six unearned runs with four strikeouts in the complete-game effort.

Ally Shores was 2-for-3, with a double, while Hannah Laury had a hit and drove in two runs and Frankie Cantrell added a hit for the Blue Devils (6-9), who fell despite leading 2-0 after five innings.

Mountain View 8, South Gwinnett 6, 8 innings

SNELLVILLE — Shae Balzer was 3-for-5 with an RBI at the plate and gave a gutsy performance in the circle, while Alaina Daugherty went 2-for-4, including an RBI single in the eighth to drive in the eventual game-winning run in Mountain View’s 8-6 win Monday at South Gwinnett.

Balzer (5-3) scattered 13 hits and five earned runs and struck out three in throwing all eight innings, and got offensive supports from Courtney Kichefski (2-for-5), Madolyn Packer (1-for-1, RBI) and Courtney Roley (1-for-2) to help the Bears improve to 7-11.

Chelsea Twordoski took the loss despite throwing 7 2/3 solid innings and driving in two runs at the plate.

The Comets (12-6) also scored four runs in the fifth to tie game and send it to extra innings.

Peachtree Ridge 9, Flowery Branch 8

SUWANEE — NaCayia Madison went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs to help Peachtree Ridge outslug Flowery Branch 9-8 Monday at home.

Brandi Mason, Wynter Webb and Andie McGregor each had two hits for the Lions (6-7), with one of McGregor’s hits a double, while Ashley Cook added a double and two RBIs.

Madison Co. 8, Lanier 0

SUGAR HILL — Isabelle Petty was 2-for-3 and Lauren Pettit added a hit, but it wasn’t enough for Lanier in its 8-0 loss to Madison County in Region 8-AAAA on Monday.

The Longhorns fell to 4-8 overall and 3-3 in region.

Providence Christian take two at tourney

CUMMING — Providence won two out of three games played at Forsyth Central’s Pink Out Tournament on Saturday.

The Storm (8-10) lost to Mt. Pisgah 5-2, but rebounded to beat Roswell 5-3 and Chattahoochee 9-7.

Abigail Roberson (5-4) got the win against Roswell, while Emily Barnett picked up the win out of the bullpen against Chattahoochee.

MacKenzie Tuttle had seven hits on the day, including a 4-for-4 game with two RBIs against Chattahoochee, while Brittany Tuttle and Katy Barry each added five hits on the day. Brittany Tuttle also stole five total bases, while Barry drove in three runs.
