Georgia SPCA gearing up for annual fundraiser

DULUTH — Even Toto from “The Wizard of Oz” would be excited about Saturday.

The Suwanee-based nonprofit Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hosting its annual fundraiser at the Gwinnett Center — and the group is asking all of its attendees to dress up like their favorite “Oz” characters to walk down the yellow-brick road.

From 7 to 11 p.m., there is food from Proof of the Pudding, music by Mr. Christopher of Audiocake and speeches by Pam Johnson-Bennett and Tim Link.

To raise additional dollars, there will be a silent auction (custom made ruby red slippers, a Tennessee getaway, a signed Atlanta Braves hat by Brian McCann and more) and raffle for a hot air balloon ride for two throughout the evening.

Tickets are $50 at the door. Funds will aid Georgia SPCA in saving animals’ lives, offering low cost spay and neuter services to the public and promoting responsible pet ownership.
