Central Gwinnett Black Knights (8-AAAAAA)
Coach: Todd Wofford
Last week: Lost 22-0 to Collins Hill
Clarke Central Gladiators (8-AAAAA)
Coach: Ahren Self
Last week: Lost 29-18 to Marist
A bad Friday led to a good week at Central Gwinnett.
“It’s been pretty good, from film everybody sees what the issues were,” said head coach Todd Wofford. “They saw all the opportunities that we missed that we had. You can build on that. They can see that we didn’t just get flat out-played, they missed numerous opportunities.”
The Week 1 loss to Collins Hill wasn’t just disappointing, it was eye-opening for a Black Knights team with sights on a breakthrough season under Wofford. Central used two quarterbacks, in Nate Hartford and Eric Forrest and the high speed spread offense never found any rhythm against Collins Hill.
“Missing wide open guys on third down situations, a few drops, things like that,” Wofford said. “Those are missed opportunities that you are not accustomed to seeing from those guys.”
Except the quarterbacks with Central breaking in a new starter at the position. Wofford would not say who would start tonight against Clarke Central, but made it clear whoever the starts will be the one quarterback for the Black Knights.
“That’s not going to be the plan going forward,” Wofford said of using two quarterbacks. “We are working right now to see which one the team will follow, which one has the best grasp of the offense. We are looking at it this week, getting reps and who can actually do that. I’ve got to go that gives us the best chance to win.”
Last meeting: Central Gwinnett won 45-42 last year.
