LAWRENCEVILLE — A water main break that was believed to happen overnight Wednesday triggered emergency plans at Mountain View High School on Thursday morning.
School personnel noticed the water interruption when they arrived at about 5:30 a.m., Gwinnett County Public Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana said. Gwinnett County Department of Transportation officials said Sunny Hill Road from Lena Carter Road and Gravel Springs Road was closed for to emergency water main repairs.
The detour route is Sunny Hill Road to Gravel Springs Road to Braselton Highway to Old Peachtree Road to Sunny Hill Road.
Activities inside the school were normal, Quintana said, as school officials initiated the emergency backup plan, which included bringing in two water buffaloes that each hold 500 gallons of water to replenish air-conditioning systems and restrooms.
The school also set up 30 water stations around the school located next to water fountains, and Quintana said 20 maintenance personnel were working on the issue.
School officials also adjusted the lunch menu, but fed all students lunch despite the incident.
