Central Gwinnett (8-AAAAAA)

Coach: Todd Wofford

Record: 2-6, 2-4 region

In just one season, first-year head coach Tommy Jones has taken Dacula from the bottom of the region standings to the brink of hosting a state playoff game. All the Falcons need to do is win their final two games against Central Gwinnett and Berkmar to secure the No. 2 seed in the region.

“I’m trying my hardest not to look at it and just focus on this one game,” Dacula head coach Tommy Jones said. “There’s so many different things that could happen.”

The Falcons collected six turnovers — five interceptions and one fumble — in last week’s win over Shiloh. C.J. Mayes returned one of those interceptions 85 yards for a touchdown, while Lawson Cook had two interceptions.

“They were very opportunistic,” Jones said.

The Falcons’ defense will face another pass-happy team in Central Gwinnett on Friday. The Black Knights are not out of the playoff race, but need to win out and get some help from other teams. They had a 13-7 halftime lead over Parkview last week, but lost 21-13.

Eric Forrest threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns, including one to Chris Shelling. The junior had 10 catches for 75 yards, while Adam Riley caught nine passes for 103 yards.

Last meeting: Central Gwinnett won 37-20 last year
