LAWRENCEVILLE — Never heard of Dad’s Garage?

Well, it’s not quite what you think. Someone’s father hasn’t opened up his house to the public. It’s an improv comedy group based out of Atlanta.

Today, Nov. 8 and 9, the improvisers stop by the Aurora Theatre for six shows of laughter with a show called “Dad’s Does the Burbs.”

Since 1995, Dad’s Garage has been producing innovative, scripted and improvised works. Improv comedy is what Dad’s Garage is known for with fast-paced comedy scenes and games made up on the spot using audience suggestions.

For those unfamiliar to “improv comedy,” it’s like TV’s “Whose Line is it Anyway?” starring locals from Atlanta. The shows last approximately 45 to 60 minutes each.

Dad’s Garage’s mission is that it “engages, cultivates and inspires artists and audiences alike by producing innovative, scripted and improvised works that are recognized locally, nationally and internationally for being undeniably awesome.”

Since its foundation, the Atlanta theater has grown from a small volunteer led organization to a thriving mid-size theater led by professional artistic and administrative staff. The family at Dad’s has continued to grow to include more than 300 volunteers and performers.

The group entertains more than 30,000 people each year at its two-theater facility in Atlanta, at public events across the continent and at festivals across the globe.

Programming for Aurora Comedy Nights is made possible through the support of the series sponsor Explore Gwinnett.
