The Wildcats continued to struggle by giving up 27 unanswered points after taking an early lead against Salem last week, and things don’t get any easier Friday with a trip to Conyers to meet Heritage next up.
The Patriots broke out of some midseason doldrums with a win last week behind two touchdowns — one rushing, one receiving — from Anthony Stanley.
But it is a different area in which Heritage concerns Apalachee coach Shane Davis the most.
“They’re so big up front,” Davis said of the Patriots. “They’re a physical football team. They’ve got good size everywhere and good speed. They’re able to do a lot of different things on offense.
“And their defensive line against our offensive line is not a good matchup for us. We’ve got to find a way to keep them off balance.”
That could mean augmenting the Wildcats’ usual run-based offense with some misdirection, and perhaps taking to the air more to try to get the ball into the hands of leading receiver Kent Knowles.
But no matter how they do it, the Wildcats will have to keep plugging away to try and gain back some confidence in what has been a tough season.
Last meeting: Heritage won 42-0 last year
