Coach: Kevin Shaffer

Record: 2-5, 0-4 region

Last week: Lost to Prince Ave. Christ. 57-7

The Lions are in need of a little confidence after their fifth straight loss, and head coach Kevin Shaffer and his staff have spent the past week working to begin building his team back up.

“We’re definitely trying to just create a plan that (the players) will buy into and each efficiency and get our confidence back up,” Shaffer said. “We’ve still got a good team, but we’ve just had some misfortune. And we do need to build our confidence back up.”

That won’t be an easy task against a Commerce team that has won three of its last four games behind a strong, two-pronged running attack of Chance McClure and Jamir Walton.

Shaffer knows the Tigers will try to pound away at his Lions, and is looking for his defense, led by defensive lineman Joe Bova, to stand firm.

“Commerce is definitely a good football team,” Shaffer said. “They’ve won some big games against some good teams.

“We know they run the ball very well. They’ve got a bunch of guys who come off the ball hard. So, we have to do everything we can to stop the run.”

Last meeting: Commerce won 42-11 last year
