Gwinnett Daily Post
Berkmar grad Martin Lugo’s score just before halftime stood as the game-winner as the Georgia Gwinnett men’s soccer team posted a 2-1 victory at Truett-McConnell College on Saturday afternoon in Cleveland for the team’s 10th victory of the season.
The Grizzlies are now 10-4 on the year and 25-6-1 over the program’s first two seasons. The Bears fell to 7-6-2 with the loss.
David Burke opened the scoring in the 10th minute, with Ibrahima Sissoko picking up the assist as GGC took a 1-0 lead.
Lugo added to the lead in the final seconds of the first half, tallying his team-leading eighth goal of the season with an assist from Patrick DaCosta.
Truett-McConnell cut the Grizzly lead in half with a score from Gavin Duff in the 54th minute, but the GGC defense allowed just three shots on goal and held on for the victory.
Lewis Sharpe made a pair of saves in goal for the Grizzlies, who outshot TMC, 18-7.
The game marked the middle of a five-game road trip for the Grizzlies, who are 6-1 away from Lawrenceville this year. GGC returns to action Saturday with a 3 p.m. contest at Montreat College (N.C.) on the NSCAA TV Game of the Week.
