After breaking a 53-game losing streak, the Mustangs may have an even bigger challenge in front of them this week — how they deal with success.

“It can be a very difficult task because they’re still young and they don’t fully understand that last week is in the past,” Meadowcreek head coach George Pugh said. “We have to look to the future because we’re playing a very good football team. In our region, you’d better bring your ‘A’ game every week, or you might get embarrassed,”

Collins Hill is also an angry football team after learning the same hard lesson Pugh is trying avoid having his team learn this week.

A week after a huge win over rival Peachtree Ridge, the Eagles fell for the first time in last week’s loss to Norcross. And coach Kevin Reach said based on what practice has been like this week, the lesson has sunk in.

“I think we got back on track by having a good week this week,” Reach said. “The kids were angry about what took place (last week), and I think they’re ready to get back after it. We’d better because (Meadowcreek has) a good running back. They’ll line up in a double tight (end) set and let him work. So we have to try to corral and hem him in, but he’s going to get his yards.”

Ryan Moore and the Mustangs’ running game will be a big key if Meadowcreek is to run its winning streak to two games, as it will be important to keep Collins Hill’s explosive offense, led by quarterback Tyler Herman and receivers like Quentin Jones, off the field as much as possible.
