Cedar Shoals Jaguars (8-AAAAA)

Coach: Chris Davis

Record: 0-6, 0-4 region

Last week: Had a bye

Apalachee Wildcats (8-AAAAA)

Coach: Shane Davis

Record: 0-6, 0-4 region

Last week: Lost to Loganville 29-21

It would be easy for the Wildcats to wallow in self pity after allowing 22 points in the final five-plus minutes to let a 21-7 fourth-quarter lead slip away last week.

However, Apalachee head coach Shane Davis says neither he, nor his coaches or players will allow that to happen.

“I think they’re OK,” Davis said. “As a coach, you want them to be disappointed, but you don’t want them to be dragging the whole next week. And I think the kids have come back with a pretty good mindset.”

Disappointment aside, something has to give with both teams entering tonight’s game winless on the season.

While Davis knows there is a real opportunity for his Wildcats to get something positive going, he also says he will not take Cedar Shoals lightly, especially with the Jaguars having several athletic players like quarterback Darius Jordan.

“If you look at them (on tape) and you don’t look at the scores, you wonder how these guys haven’t won yet,” Davis said. “There’s an opportunity for both of us. It’s just a little bit of everything we have to get better at. We’re a team trying to find a way to win right now.”

The Wildcats will look to their grinding running game, and the likes of running back Justin Skinner, to help jump start the team and build an advantage.
